In the census of 31 March 1901 in 13 Coomer Road, Fulham, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Tunley.4 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 24 Estcourt Road, Fulham, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Tunley Ethel was emploed in dressmaking.5 She married Henry T Wiltshire in January 1923 in Fulham, London, England.6,7 Bertha died in 1979 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, The register states she was born on 25 September 1894, I believe this to be the wrong year.8

In the census of 31 March 1901 in 13 Coomer Road, Fulham, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Tunley.2 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 24 Estcourt Road, Fulham, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Tunley Frank worked in the booking office in the District Railway.3 He married Violet Augusta Lugg on 28 August 1920 in St Mary, Acton, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Humphrey C Lugg, Ethel Bertha Tunley and Stanley John Lugg. Frank was a Sub Station Operator and gave his address as 24 Estcourt Road Fulham, his father William Richard Tunley was a Motorman. Violet gave her address as 2 Chaucer Road in Action and her father Humphrey Christopher Lugg was a Grocer.4,5 Frank died on 7 March 1946 in Shenley Hospital, Elstree, Hertfordshire, England, aged 52 his usual address was 38 St Margarets Avenue, South Harrow in Middlesex.6,7 His estate was probated on 24 October 1946 in London to his wife. His estate was valued at £573.7

She is listed as assisting in the business. John her husband was a patient in West Hartlepool hospital. In the census of 19 June 1921 in 78 Albert Drive, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Alfred Thomas Greathead.6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Thomas Harold Greathead was listed as living at 5 Welbeck Avenue, Buxton, Derbyshire, England, he was staying with Frederick and Ada Needham and was a Railway porter with LM and S Railways.7 He married Gladys Ruth Vera Newsome, daughter of Thomas Dearnley Newsome, on 20 June 1942 in St Mary the Virgin, Buxton, Derbyshire, England, The ceremony was witnessed by Thos Henry Broadbent Newsome and Marjorie Rita Howard. Thomas lived at 5 Welbeck Avenue.8,9 He was a foreman shunter for L.M.S. Railways until the illness which led to his death.4 Thomas died in December 1984 in Poynton, Cheshire, England, aged 68.10

In the census of 31 March 1901 in 6 Norburn Road, South Manchester, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Paul Greathead.5 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 79 Stanley Grove, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Paul Greathead Alfred was an apprentice fitter.6 He married Agnes Mabel Scragg, daughter of William Scragg, on 5 September 1915 in St Clement, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Samuel Manchester and Jessie Cowe. Alfred was a fitter and gave his address as 79 Stanley Grove. Agnes lived at 145 Earl Street.7,8,9,10 Alfred was listed as head of household in the census of 19 June 1921 in 78 Albert Drive, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, Alfred was a locomotive fitter for the engineers Beyer, Peacock & Co Ltd at Gorton. And their daughter Gladys. Alfred was a low fitter.12 His wife Agnes died on 1944 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.13 Alfred died on 12 August 1969 in Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, aged 76.14

     Ellen Mary Tuffnell was born about 1831 in Wormington, Essex, England.2 She was the daughter of George Tuffnell and Maria ...2 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Vicarage House, Uffrington, Berkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of George Tuffnell.3 She married Edward Harris Greathed, son of Edward Harris and Mary Elizabeth Glyn, on 19 December 1860 in St Mary Magdelene, St Leonards on Sea, Sussex, England, after a licence was issued. The ceremony was witnessed by George and Margaret Tuffnell and Elisa Greathed. Ellen was the second daughter of Rev George Tuffnell of Thornton Watlass, Yorkshire. The wedding notice appeared in the Morning Chronicle of Saturday 22 December 1860.1,4,5,6,7 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 5 Curzon Street, Westminster, London, England, she was listed as the wife of Edward Harris Greathed.8 Ellen died on 10 February 1863 in Whalley Range, Lancashire, England, Her death notice appeared in The Leeds Mercury of Tuesday 24 February 1863 and The Caledonian Mercury of Thursday 26 February 1863 although it reported a different date 20 February.1,9 Ellen was buried on 27 February 1863 in Hampreston, Dorset, England, in the family vault.10

She was baptised on 7 March 1856 in St George, Camberwell, London, England, Her address was East Surrey Grove and her father was a General post letter carrier. She was baptised at the same time as her sister Emily.5,4 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 1 Canal Place, Canal Bank, Peckham, Surrey, England, she was listed as the daughter of Charles Greathead Celia was a scholar.6 Charles lost his wife to child birth and his sons William and Charles in 1864, he then emigrated to Australia to join his father leaving his daughters Emily aged 12, Celia aged 10 and Louisa Annie aged 9 behind. Did he plan to send for them later? The little girls went into the workhouse.7,1,3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 62 Lincoln Street, Mile End, London, England, she was listed as a servant to Mary A Stephenson and annuitant and her three children.8 She married Charles Webb Fearne, son of Hannah Fearne, on 21 June 1874 in St John, Bethnal Green, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Robert Witteril, Clara Holt and Annie Louisa Greathead. Charles was listed as a clerk but his fathers name is missing from the record an X is placed in the space. Charles gave his address as 13 New Terrace, Alderney Road. Celia gave hers as 18 Norfolk Street and her father was listed as a walking stick manufacturer.9,10 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 22 Lichfield Rd, Mile End Old Town, London, England, she was listed as the wife of Charles Webb Fearne.11 She died in 1886 in Mile End, London, England, She died possibly following the birth of her daughter Emily.12

The ceremony was witnessed by Robert Witteril, Clara Holt and Annie Louisa Greathead. Charles was listed as a clerk but his fathers name is missing from the record an X is placed in the space. Charles gave his address as 13 New Terrace, Alderney Road. In the census of 5 April 1891 in 5 No 55 Edmondsley, Chester le Street, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Mark Greathead.5 Anthony travelled as a boy in 1890s the nearby villages with a horse and cart helping the butcher. He moved to the Trimden area in the 1900's.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Low Row, Waldridge, Chester le Street, Durham, England, he was listed as the visitor of William Gransbury he worked as a driver below ground, William's wife Alice was his sister.6 He was working as a butchers boy in the 1900's, as a driver below ground in 1901 and a horsekeeper at the Colliery by 1907.7 He married Elizabeth Grainger on 29 June 1907 in Register Office, Sedgefield, Durham, England, Witnessed by Robert Davison and James Maddison
Elizabeth lived at Lawson Street, Trimden Colliery.8 Anthony was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 12 Rodwell Street, Trimdon Colliery, Durham, England, Anthony worked in the colliery as an underground horsekeeper living with his wife, daughter and Aunt Mary Milne in their three roomed home. They had lost two of their three children before 1911.9 Anthony was listed as head of household in the census of 19 June 1921 in 12 Rodwell Street, Trimdon Station, Wingate, Durham, England, Anthony was a coal miner on setter working below ground for Trimdon Coal Company at Deaf Hill but was out of work. He was living with his wife and six of their children and his niece Hannah Maddison.10 In September 1929 Anthony was involved in an accident up at Deaf Hill Mine he had been trapped under a descending cage. He was helped home by a neighbour and the doctor called. He had to have a goitre operation in Sherburn Hospital a while later which was agrivated by the accident. Sadly he never worked down the mine again.11 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Anthony was listed as living at 7 May Crescent, Easington, Durham, England, with his wife Elizabeth. And their children Florence, John.      Elizabeth Grainger was born on 18 February 1883 in Stockton on Tees, Durham, England.2,3 Elizabeth was illegitimate. Her mother married a man called Hamilton soon after birth of Elizabeth and they emigrated to Australia leaving Elizabeth to be brought up by her gran. No fathers name on marriage certificate.1 She was working at delivering milk for her greatgran who had the milk business. Delivery was on foot with a milk can. She married Anthony Greathead, son of Mark Greathead and Sarah Jane Hutton, on 29 June 1907 in Register Office, Sedgefield, Durham, England, Witnessed by Robert Davison and James Maddison
Elizabeth lived at Lawson Street, Trimden Colliery.4 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 12 Rodwell Street, Trimdon Colliery, Durham, England, she was listed as the wife of Anthony Greathead.5 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 12 Rodwell Street, Trimdon Station, Wingate, Durham, England, she was listed as the wife of Anthony Greathead.6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Elizabeth was listed as living at 7 May Crescent, Easington, Durham, England, with her husband Anthony. And their children Florence, John.
