They were in a shack outside Falls City, Oregon, in good condition, about 1200 books, he bought them all. John had accumulated many books on art and/or water-colours starting around 1920, and brought home catalogues from various art exhibits, filled with detailed notes on the artists displayed, in his handwriting- including the Chicago Art Institute 1930, 31, and 33. He became a watercolourist of note. The book "Universal Indian Sign Language / of the Plains Indians" by William Tomkins, 1927, was inscribed by the author "to my good friend, John Greathead". Edna was known as Phi Beta Kappa at Syracuse U. Sheleft a copy of her father's poetry book, a number of early small textbooks dating back as far as 1800, and two copies of her book "Southern Opinion on the Negro Question" published by Syracuse U in 1910. .¹¹
