I am unsure whether Margaret went back to her maiden name as I can find no other Margaret born around 1850 and no trace of Margaret or Ada Forbes.7

In the census of 3 April 1881 in 3 Campbell St West, Wolsingham, Weardale, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of George Greathead.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in No 2 Hedley Hope Terrace, Hedley, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of George Greathead George was a scholar.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in New Pavillion Terrace, Lanchester, Durham, England, he was listed as the boarder staying with William Smith and his family. He worked as a coalminers hewer.6 He married Gertrude Alice Pull, daughter of John Pull and Mary A Cory, on 18 April 1903 in St Patricks Parish Church, Winlaton, Gateshead, Durham, England, afer the banns were read. The ceremony was witnessed by Matthew Pull and Miriam Pull. George was a miner aged 25 and Alice aged 23. Both of them gave their address as High Spen.7 He died in 1949 in Durham, England.8,9

In the census of 3 April 1881 in 3 Campbell St West, Wolsingham, Weardale, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of George Greathead.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in No 2 Hedley Hope Terrace, Hedley, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of George Greathead.4 He married Elizabeth Ann Gleghorn, daughter of William Halliday Gleghorn and Elizabeth Hetherington, in 1901 in Durham, England.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 26 Queeen Street, Brandon and Byshottles, Durham, England, he was listed as the boarder of William Rowell and family. His brother Matthew was also lodging at the house. Both were painters.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Frenchgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Greathead Alfred was a painter.7 Alfred was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in 5 Durham Street, Elswick, Northumberland, England, Alfred was a commercial traveller.8 Alfred was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 9 Lo View, Longbenton, Northumberland, England, Alfred was a commercial traveller.9 He married Elizabeth McNee on 27 September 1893 in St John the Baptist, Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, England, by Rev J W Milner.      William Greathead was baptized on 12 May 1802 in Richmond, Yorkshire, England.3,4 He was the son of Matthew Greathead and Ann Kilburn.3 He married Sarah Farnsworth, daughter of William Farnsworth and Ann Davis, on 12 September 1828 in Latimer, Buckinghamshire, England.5 William was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 6 June 1841 in Market Place, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, William was a painter.6,7 William was initiated on 2 December 1841 into the Lennox Masonic Lodge No 144 (later No 123) in Richmond, Yorkshire. He passed on 3 February 1842 and raised on 3 March 1842. He was the Secretary of the Lodge from 1860-1874. His membership ceased in 1874.8 William was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Frenchgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, William was a painter.9 William was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in Frenchgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, William was a painter and plumber.10 William was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Frenchgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, William was a painter employing two men.11 He died in 1880 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, England.12,13

     Jane Edith Willey was born in 1883 in Weardale, Durham, England.2,3 She married George Greathead, son of George Greathead and Jane Pickering, in 1906 in Hartlepool, Durham, England.4 She died on 31 December 1948 in The Forge, Pit Laddie, Cornsay, Bowburn, Durham, England.1,5,6 She was buried on 3 January 1949 in St Pauls Churchyard, Cassop-cum-Quarrington, Durham, England.7 She did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 28 January 1949 in Durham to her husband George, a blacksmith. Her effects were valued at £475 15s 10d.6

Chart 3: George Greathead
     George Greathead was born in 1846 in Leyburn, Yorkshire, England.1,2 He was the son of George Greathead and Ann Stott. In the census of 30 March 1851 at Melmersby, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of George Greathead.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Gornonadgild, Carlton Highdale, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the grand son of John Stott.4 He and Robert Greathead emigrated on 9 March 1863 from Yorkshire, England, to Australia on "Golden City" at the invitation their Uncle Robert Greathead. Robert and Mr Gladwell were responsible for establishing the first timber mill in Maryborough (about 100km South of Bundaburg, Queensland) This became known as the Union Mill. Soon after they moved there and were pioneers in the sugar industry. Their farm was called "Penhillvate" after George's family home/village, Penhill in Yorkshire.2 He married Anne O'Hagan, daughter of John O'Hagan and Mary Ann Gallagher, on 6 April 1869 in Maryborough Catholic Church, Maryborough, Queensland, Australia, by Father Paul Tissot a Frenchman. The ceremony was witnessed by George Ward and Mary Ann O'Hagan. Mary left her mark.

The family became pioneers of the sugar cane industry in the Woongarra district. George was one of the members of the first Barolin Divisional Board and was their chairman between 1883 - 1885. Through his interest in education he donated the land on which the original Woongarra State School was built.2,5,6,7,8 He died on 9 September 1887 in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia, Sadly he commited suicide shooting himself in the banana fields, over worry about the mill he had bought.5,9,10 He was buried in Bundaberg Cemetery, Fitzgerald Street, Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia, in a private grave number P89 location C4. His wife was buried in the same grave with him in 1918. The service was held in a Wesleyan Church and the Minister was Rev Pearson. The funeral director was Timothy Buckley. His address was given as Penhillvale.11,12

     Hannah Hobbs was born about 1844 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.1,2 She married James Charles Greathead, son of George Greathead and Fanny ..., in 1862 in Kings Norton, Warwickshire, England.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Brunswick Place, Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, she was listed as the wife of James Charles Greathead.4 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 19 Allcock St, Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, she was listed as the wife of James Charles Greathead.5 Hannah's husband died 15 May 1889. She received administration on 18 June 1889 in Birmingham.6 Hannah was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in Princess Alexandra Inn, 27 Kent Street North, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, Hannah was a Beerhouse keeper.7 Hannah was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 at 32 Bridge St West, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, Hannah a widow worked as a beer retailer, i.e. ran a Public House.8 She died on 13 July 1908 in 70 Murdock Road, Handsworth, Staffordshire, England.9,6 She did not leave a will.
