Arthur Gascoigne was the son of Richard Gascoigne and Selina Clara Tunley.1 Arthur was apparently a giant of a man, a qualified architect who got jobs but when he went for medicals and was told he was not fit enough, his height was putting a strain on his heart. So he remained unemployed but Clara, his mother, owned a row of houses, her own being the end one with a one acre garden complete with poultry so Arthur looked after the property.1

Charlotte Schneller was born about 1921 in Berlin, Germany.2 She married Michael Hale Bullock, son of Herbert Stanley Billingsley Bullock and Katherine Frances Wortham, in 1941 in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales.3 Charlotte died in 1980 In the latter years of their marriage their paths went in different directions. At the age of 50, Michael was invited to be a visiting professor in the department of Creative Writing and Translation at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver BC. There was always a high level of communication between Michael and Lotte. At the end of her life he took a years sabbatical from the university to be with her. Michael's three grandchildren Susannah, Zoe and Daniel were a great enrichment to his life.4

The family were living in 37 Shakespeare Road in Action and their father was a Mercantile clerk.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 37 Shakeapeare Road, Acton, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of Hale Wortham.7 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 47 Rathbone Place W, Marylebone, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of Hale Wortham Katherine was Radiographer Medical Photographer.8 She married Herbert Stanley Billingsley Bullock, son of Charles Bullock and Marianna Jane Loughborough, on 3 July 1915 in St Ethelburga, Bishopsgate, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Hale Wortham and L C Bullock. Herbert was an insurance official and Katherine an Xray operator.9,2 Katherine died in 1919 in Hendon, London, England, from the Spanish flu.10,11
