Her father Richard witnessed the ceremony.1,5,6,7,8 I believe the Mr and Mrs Greathed mentioned in the book "The Waterloo Ball" by Sir William Fraser (London 1897) attending the famous ball given by the Duke of Richmond on 15 June 1815 in Brussels are Edward and Mary Greathed. Wellington and most of the army top brass attended the ball. Whilst the ball was in full swing news arrived confirming that Napoleon and his army were advancing into Belgium, which led to the battle of Waterloo three days later. Legend has it that Wellington and his chiefs of staff hurried away straight to the British Army, many not having time to change out of their dancing shoes before engaging with the enemy. The event is commemorated in Byron's poem, "The Eve of Waterloo". Since Edward was a civilian he did not attend the battle.9,10 Her husband Edward died on 1 December 1840 in Paris, France, aged 63 His death was registered in Marylebone register office.11,5,12,13 Mary was listed as the head of the family on the census of 6 June 1841 in Hampton Court Green, Hampton Court, Surrey, England, Mary was living on independant means and was living with her daughters Mary, Julia and Emily and sons George who was in the Royal Navy and Robert. The houshold also consisted of four servants.14 Mary was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at 112 Park Place, Westminster, London, England, Mary was living with her daughter Emily.15 Mary was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in 20a Hill Street, Hanover Square, London, England, Mary was a fundsholder.16 Mary died on 17 January 1864 in 20a Hill Street, Barclay Square, London, England, aged 77.11,17,18 Mary was buried in 1864 in Kensal Green Cemetery, Kensington, London, England.19 The will of Mary was proved on 5 April 1864 at the Principal Register by her son Edward Harris Greathed.
