     John Greathead was born about 1824 in Erith, Kent, England. He was the son of John Greathead and Sarah Hyenday. He was baptised on 31 October 1824 in St John's, Erith, Kent, England.2,3 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Erith, Kent, England, he was listed as the son of John Greathead.4 John was a Policeman no 26655 and had joined the force on 19 March 1849.5 He married Elizabeth Seaman, daughter of George Seaman and Johanna Bernett, in 1852 in Dartford, Kent, England.6 On Sunday 27 July 1856 the newspaper the News of the World reported that PC31 John Greathead arrested a stout and active young man, described as a boiler-maker with no home called John Smith. John Smith had made a daring robbery from the Dutchman Jacobs Braewith, one of the crew of the schooner Vesta, lying at Ramia wharf in Bermondsey. John Smith was committed for trial. He had been in custody before for similar offences.7 John was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in 46 Lodging House, Crown of Seven Lense Bath House, Tower Hamlets, London, England, John was a Police Constable.8 John died on 25 September 1867 in St George in the East, London, England.9,10

     Thomas Paul Greathead was born on 20 August 1865 in 3 Langdale Street, St George in the East, London, England, Twin to Sarah.2,3 He was the son of John Greathead and Elizabeth Seaman. Brothers John and Thomas had a spell of 2 days in the infirmary with their mother before going to Plashet School on 29 September 1873.4 Thomas attended Plashet School until 23 April 1877 and then spent another spell there from 30 April 1877.4 He married Leah Waite, daughter of Abraham Waite and Eliza Phelps, on 11 July 1892 in St Saviour's, Islington, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by John Pook and Agnes Seaman. Thomas was a soldier based at Aldershot and Leah lived at 21 Corbyn Street.5,6 He was Thomas served in the Regular army seeing action in India, Egypt and Africa. He was a Bandmaster - Sergeant and when he left the services he became a Commissionaire.1 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 6 Norburn Road, South Manchester, Lancashire, England, Thomas was an office porter living with his wife and family. His niece Annie Pook was also staying with the family, probably because her father had just died.7 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 79 Stanley Grove, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, Thomas was an office porter living withhis wife and children in their five roomed home.8 His wife Leah died on 1920 in Prestwich, Lancashire, England.9 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 19 June 1921 in 79 Stanley Grove, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, Thomas was a Commissionaire for Messrs Beyers, Peacock & Co Ltd who were engineers in Gorton.10 Thomas died on 18 December 1927 in 79 Stanley Grove, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire, England, aged 62.11,1,12 Thomas was buried on 22 December 1927 in Southern Cemetery, Manchester, Lancashire, England, in section U Church of England grave number 911 with his wife Leah, daughter Eleanor Hooley and grandaughter Elsie Leah Greathead.13 The will of Thomas was proved on 18 January 1928 in Manchester to his daughter Ethel Florence Hayes who was the wife of Frederick Hayes. His effects were valued at £164 11s 7d.12

     Joyce Norah Wyatt was born on 10 May 1932 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.2,3,4 She married Anthony Peter Greathead, son of Sidney George Greathead and Eva Florence Preston, in Nairobi, Kenya, Anthony was a policeman in Nairobi when he met Joyce who was doing her nursing training there having travelled from her homeland, Argentina.3 Anthony and Joyce travelled first class with their son Anthony on board the ship Uganda leaving London on 1 January 19060 bound for Beira, Mozanbique. They gave their address in the UK as White Lion Hotel, Barton-on-Humber, Lincolnshire.4 Her husband Anthony died on 4 November 2004 in 4 Rosamond Court, Rosamund Drive, Bradway, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, aged 75.5,6 She died on 14 October 2005 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England, aged 73 She was a retired Staff Nurse. Her usual address was Flat 6, Rivermead, Wilford Lane, West Bridford in Nottinghamshire.7,8,6 Her body was cremated at 3pm on 26 October 2005 in Wilford Hill, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England, following a funeral service at the church of St Giles, West Bridgford. It was requested that flowers or donations if desired for Oxfam be sent to Co-operative Funeralcare, 18 Tudor Square, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 6BT. Telephone 0115 981 7444. A lovely tribute was written in the newspaper stating that "Through the years you were close by our side, to help us, to teach us, to patiently guide. And when you were needed, you were always there, to smooth out each problem, each worry, each care. And now just as then, it is still very true, we only have one Mum and we are proud that ours is you. With much love from your children Kevin, Nigel, Michael and Linda also loved very much by her grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Gabrielle and Emily. She will be sadly missed by all."9,10 The will of Joyce was proved on 20 March 2006 in Manchester to her son Anthony Kevin Greathead.6

     Walter Tunley was born in 1874 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1,2 He was the son of John Tunley and Margaret Baker. In the census of 3 April 1881 in 63 Aubrey Street, Everton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of John Tunley.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 74 Mere Lane, Everton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of John Tunley both John and Walter worked as drysalters.4 He married Florence Taylor Benton, daughter of Mary Ann Taylor, on 4 September 1901 in Primitive Methodist Church, Mayfield Grove, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England, by certificate. The ceremony was witnessed by Herbert Waumsley and Jane Alice Taylor (Cousin of Florence) Florence lived at Stourton Place, Horncastle. Walter gave his address as 59 Bruce Grove, Nottingham. Interestingly the fathers name boxes has been scored through for Florence.5,6 He died in 1938 in Derby, Derbyshire, England, Walter was a Methodist Minister and Probationer from 1897 until his death. He "died in work."7,8

He married Elizabeth Hands, daughter of William Richard Hands and Sophia Petty, on 27 April 1848 in Parish Church, Stepney, London, England, John of full age married Elizabeth age 25 by licence. Witnessed by Elizabeth H (?) Hands and Sophia Hands. John was a college servant.1 John was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at St John Street, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, John was listed as working in Colln Ser and living with his wife and two daughters Elizabeth and Emily and one servant.3 John died in 1861 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1,2,4
