In the census of 2 April 1871 in 83 Waterloo Street, Crumpsall, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Greathead John was a scholar.8
In the census of 3 April 1881 in 7 Gibson Street, Harpurhey, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Greathead.9,10 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 7 Gibson Street, Harpurhey, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Greathead John was a postman.11 He married Margaret Connolly, daughter of James Connolly, in 1895 in Manchester, Lancashire, England, I am led to believe this may have been Johns third marriage although I can find no evidence. The suggestions were first wife called Veronica and the second having a surname of Ammeys.12,3,13 John was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 at 74 Chapman St, Manchester, Lancashire, England, John was a Postman.14 His wife Margaret died on 12 October 1910 in Prestwich, Lancashire, England.15,16 He married Frances Sarah Hamey in 1911 in Prestwich, Lancashire, England, the Prestwich Registrar attended.17,18 John was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 6 Wallis Street, Prestwich, Lancashire, England, John was a stamper and porter at the Post Office living with his wife, children and step children in their six roomed home.19 John was listed as head of household in the census of 19 June 1921 in 1 Randlesham Street, Prestwich, Lancashire, England, John worked in the post office in Newton Street in Manchester. In the census of 2 April 1871 in 83 Waterloo Street, Crumpsall, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Greathead.8 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 7 Gibson Street, Harpurhey, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Greathead George was a scholar and I believe at the Roman Catholic Presbytery in Tudhoe, so was listed twice.9,10 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 7 Gibson Street, Harpurhey, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Greathead George was a shopman.11 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Wilson Street, Blackley, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Greathead George was a clothing factory manager.12 He married Theresa Hoey in 1904 in Prestwich, Lancashire, England, Theresa was George's first wife.13,14,15 His wife Theresa died on 27 February 1906 in 12 Stretford Road, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, England, following the death of her daughter shortly after her birth.13,16 George received administration on his wife's estate in Manchester on 3 May 1906. George was an assistant superintendant and Ellen was a maternity nurse.20 George enlisted on 13 February 1915 giving his address a 1 Sewell Gardens, Prescott, St Helens, Lancashire. He gave his date of birth as 19 September 1868 a year early than his actual birth. He had dark hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion and was 5 foot 2 inches tall, weighing in at 138 lbs. He served in France 9 February 1917 to 9 December1917. George was a salesman and was discharged on 8 March 1919.5 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register George was listed as living at 36 Dunstan Street, Manchester, Lancashire, England, with his wife Helen. And their son Francis. George was a retired Clothing Manager.7 George was bombed out in the war and lived for a while with his brother Thomas and his family.10 George died in 1948 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.21

Theresa Greathead was born on 24 July 1871 in Blakely, Manchester, Lancashire, England.3,4,5,6 She was the daughter of Edwin Greathead and Margaret Moran.7 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 7 Gibson Street, Harpurhey, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Edwin Greathead Theresa was a scholar, she went on to study at Bury Convent Grammar School.8,9 On 11 January 1890 her name was changed to Sister Bonaventure when she received her habit. She entered the Daughters of the Cross at Chelsea on 27 December 1888 and first made her vows on 11 January 1891, renewing them on the same date in 1892 and 1895. She made her perpetual vows at Liège on 16 August 1900.10 In the census of 5 April 1891 in St Wilfred’s Convent and school, North Chelsea, London, England, she was listed as a religious Nun.11 In the census of 31 March 1901 in St Johns Seminary, Wonersh, Surrey, England, she was listed as the Lay Sister She worked as a needlewoman.12 Theresa was listed as a domestic Sister in the hospital service on 2 April 1911 in St Catherine's Hospital, Ramsgate, Kent, England.13 Theresa was listed as head of household in the census of 19 June 1921 in St Anthony's Hospital, Cheam, Surrey, England, Theresa was listed as an Officer performing domestic duties.14 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Theresa was listed as living at Convent of the Holy Cross, High Street, Ramsgate, Kent, England, She was a member of a religious community and worked as a seastress in the sewing room.15 Theresa died on 24 March 1960 in Carshalton, Surrey, England, aged 88.2,16,10,17

Their marriage certificate says Thomas a widower. The ceremony was witnessed by John S Boardman and Teresa Greathead. Henry gave his address as 280 Oldham Road, Failsworth while Clara gave 385 Oldham Road, Newton Heath, they moved to Mostan.16,2,8 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Thomas was listed as living at 169 Lightbourne Road, Manchester, Lancashire, England, with his wife Clara. Their daughter Edith and her future husband, daughter Clara and one other. Thomas was a registered dentist.6 Thomas became a dentist and was registered on 11 December 1922. In 1950 his practice was at 169 Lightbourne Road, Mostan, Manchester10.17,18 Thomas died on 6 January 1955 in 169 Lightbourne Road, Moston, Manchester, Lancashire, England, aged 76 from Cerebral Thrombosis. He was a dentist and his daughter Clara registered his death.19 Thomas was buried Thomas is buried with his parents and first wife in Moston cemetery in Manchester.8

Middleton Greathead was born on 15 October 1819 in Littleburn Farm, New Brancepath, Durham, England.1,2 He was the son of John Greathead and Mary ...3,1 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Back Lane, Stokesley, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of John Greathead Middleton was a printer.4 Middleton was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Archer Street, Darlington, Durham, England, Middleton was a printer.5 Middleton was apprenticed to the printing business with Mr Pratt, of Stokesley. On the termination of his apprenticeship he came to Darlington as foreman to Messrs Coats and Fannar stationers, Highrow. He was with the firm for eight years, leaving there to take up a position as manager in connection with the Darlington and Stockton Times. Here he remained for 13 years, the proprieters, Messrs Wm and Robert Thompson, giving him a responsibility which his efficient discharge of his duties fully merited. When the paper was sold to Mr Henry King Spark. Middleton gave up his managership, and for a short time took a holiday, much needed owing to his unremitting attention to duties that had made large demands on his physical powers. He then went into business himself as a management stationer etc in the Horse market, the shop being in the position and the one later occupied by Messrs Mack and Miln. He carried out business and was a respected by his fellow townsmen until his retirement.
Middleton was a great draught player, very clever in the composition and solution of problems. He did much to popularise the game in Darlington He was a valued member of the Stokesley band in his youthful days. He took an enthusiastic interest in cricket. He was also a member of the Loyal North Briton Lodge of Oddfellows No 1,061.2 He married Margaretta Tate, daughter of Thomas Tate and Mary Martin, on 23 November 1852 in Darlington, Durham, England.6,7 Middleton was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in Upper Archer Street, Darlington, Durham, England, He was a letter press printer and the only occupant, his wife and daughter were staying with her parents in Stokesby, Yorkshire.8,9 Middleton was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 4 Upper Archer Street, Darlington, Durham, England, Middleton was a newsagent.10 Middleton was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 10 Woodlands Terrace, Darlington, Durham, England, Middleton was an overseer at the Darlington and Stockton Times Office. He had retired by 1881. On ending his connection with the newspaper he took over the railway parcels office, together with a newsagency. He was a musician of considerable skill and an enthusiastic draught player.11,3 His wife Margaretta died on 26 May 1888 in Darlington, Durham, England.12,1,13 Middleton died on 30 January 1899 in 1 Woodlands Terrace, Darlington, Durham, England, aged 79 Middleton had been bedridden for the last three months, owing to a serious fall which happened to him in Bondgate, when he broke his thigh. He had been attended by Dr Raine and devotedly nursed by his daughter. Middleton bore this illness with exempary patience and Christian resignation.14,15,2 Middleton was buried on 2 February 1899 in West Cemetery, Stokesley, Durham, England, his grave stone found in Section B Row 1 Headstone number 2 reads: In Affectionate Remembrance of MIDDLETON GREATHEAD of Darlington who died 30 Jan 1899 in his 80th year. An honest man here lies at rest. Also of MARGARETTA his beloved wife who died 26 May 1888 aged 69 years and is interred at Stokesley Blessed are the pure in heart. Also MARY MARGARETTA ALLISON wife of JOHN ALLISON and only child of the above who died 21 May 1921 Aged 67 years. Careful and troubled about many things.2,13,16 The will of Middleton was proved on 30 May 1899 in Durham to William Harding a sharebroker, George Rolph Raine M D, his daughter Mary Margaretta Greathead and George Newby Watson a solictor. His effects were valued at £5369 12s 7d . His wife had died earlier in 1888 and he was listed as a retired journeyman printer.15

William Greathead was baptised on 8 December 1823 in Hipswell, Yorkshire, England.3 He was the son of Edward Greathead and Thomasine Ridsdale. In the census of 6 June 1841 in Scotton, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Edward Greathead.4 On 26 October 1841 William signed up as a Private in the 12th Foot in Leeds. He served 3 years in the Cape of Good Hope, a further 8 years in Mauritius and a final 7 years in the Cape of Good Hope before being discharged unfit for duties of a soldier on 29 August 1860. He had acute pleuritis and pulmonary disease. Private 1808 William Greathead was declared to have bad conduct having not achieved one good conduct badge. He was tried 5 times by Court Martial and entered 55 times in the Regimental deformers book.5 He married Isabel Woodward, daughter of John Woodward and Elizabeth ..., on 19 June 1861 in Register Office, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, the ceremony was witnessed by Margaret and Frances Woodward who both signed their names with a X. William was aged 34 and a labourer while Isabel was aged 28. Both gave their addresses as Sleegate in the township of Hipswell.6 William and Isabell witnessed after the banns had been read, the wedding ceremony of George Smith and Ann Woodward on 22 May 1864 at Christ Church in West Hartlepool.7 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Brown Jug, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, he was listed as a boarder William was listed as married and a Chelsea Pensioner he was boarding with Thomas B Plews a beerhouse keeper and his wife Isabel. William's wife Isabel is staying with her parents.8 William and Isabell witnessed after the banns had been read, the wedding ceremony of Robert Porritt and Ann Smith on 19 September 1875 at Christ Church in West Hartlepool.9 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 39 Charlotte Street, Stranton, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, William was a Chelsea pensioner. William and Jane (think this should have read Isabel) had a boarder called J Johnson who was a widower aged 84 born Morton, Durham.10 William died on 28 October 1888 in Workhouse, Throston, Hartlepool, Durham, England, aged 64 from Phthisis. The death was certified by T G Ainsley. The informant was J Mason as Master of Throston Workhouse.11
