Thomas Greathead was born on 8 October 1866 in Bath Street, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, His mother is described as Jane Greathead formerly Bowes, but I cannot find a wedding.2,3,1,4 He was the son of John Greathead and Jane Ann Hogg. In the census of 2 April 1871 in Slaters Yard, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of John Greathead.5 In the census of 3 April 1881 in North Eastern Certified Reformatory, Stannington, Northumberland, England, he was listed as a juvenile offender.6 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 2 Florence Street, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of John Greathead Thomas was a general labourer.7 As the result it was alleged, of a public house row, two men named Thomas Greathead aged 31, 5 John Street and Richard Ward aged 21, 21 William Street were treated at the Stockton Hospital on 23 October 1897. The first had a stab on the hand, and the second a bite on the cheek. Both had to have their heads bandaged up, one having a black eye. He was a widower working as a general labourer.11 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 18 Clarence Street, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, Thomas was a labourer in the stone quarry living in his three roomed home. He had a servant Lizzie Young living with him. She was a widow, her two children were listed as boarders.12 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 4 Stokes Yard, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, he was listed as the boarder of Maria Louise Peacock Thomas was a general labourer for Southdurham Steel and Iron Company but was out of work. He later married Maria.13 He married Maria Louise Peacock, daughter of George Simpson Dale and Maria Atkinson, on 22 May 1928 in Register Office, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, The ceremony was witnessed by R I Davies and M Oyston, both Thomas and Maria had been widowed and gave the address of 4 Carroll Street, Stockton on Tees. Thomas was a geneal labourer.14,3 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Thomas was listed as living at 58 Church Road, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, with his wife Maria. Thomas was a retired general labourer.4 He died on 12 October 1944 in 50 Portrack Lane (Union Workhouse), Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, aged 78 from bronchitis and senile decay presumably the hospital. His step daughter Olive Boyd of 73 Hartington Road, Stockton on Tees was the informant. The certificate gave Thomas as a general labourer of 84 Church Road.15 Thomas was buried on 16 October 1944 in Durham Road Cemetery, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England.16

Herbert Greathead was born on 19 October 1893 in 9 Howell Croft, Bolton, Lancashire, England.2,1,3,4 He was the son of Richard Greathead and Mary Rostron. He was baptised on 15 November 1893 in St Peter, Bolton le Moors, Lancashire, England, his father was a spindle and fly maker and lives in Little Bolton.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 9 Remur Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Richard Greathead.6 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 13 Arthur Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Richard Greathead Herbert was an apprentice flyer maker in the iron foundry.7 He married Gertrude Hemmings in 1919.8 Herbert was listed as head of household in the census of 19 June 1921 in 22 Rhyl Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, Herbert was a spindle flyer maker working for W Ryders Fold Road in Bolton. He was lving with his wife and son with two boarders James and Elizabeth Mather.9 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Herbert was listed as living at 36 Buxton Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, with his wife Gertrude. And their children Bertram and Cyril. Herbert was a spindle and fly maker. Bertram was a piecer cotton.10 Herbert died on 1 December 1959 in 36 Buxton Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, aged 66.11,12,13 His body was cremated Herbert was a retired spindle and fly maker. His ashes were removed on 8 December on 4 December 1959 in Overdale Crematorium, Overdale Drive, Bolton, Lancashire, England.14 Herbert did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 18 December 1959 in Manchester to his widow Gertrude Greathead. His effects were valued at £300 12s 6d.12
