His step daughter Olive Boyd of 73 Hartington Road, Stockton on Tees was the informant. He was baptised on 15 November 1893 in St Peter, Bolton le Moors, Lancashire, England, his father was a spindle and fly maker and lives in Little Bolton.⁵ In the census of 31 March 1901 in 9 Remur Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Richard Greathead.⁶ In the census of 2 April 1911 in 13 Arthur Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Richard Greathead Herbert was an apprentice flyer maker in the iron foundry.⁷ He married Gertrude Hemmings in 1919.⁸ Herbert was listed as head of household in the census of 19 June 1921 in 22 Rhyl Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, Herbert was a spindle flyer maker working for W Ryders Fold Road in Bolton.
