     James Smith was born about 1864 in Branderston, Suffolk, England.2 He married Laura Banthorpe, daughter of Thomas Banthorpe and Caroline Fairweather, on 21 May 1888 in Peasenhall, Suffolk, England.1 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Peasenhall, Suffolk, England, he was listed as the son in law of Caroline Banthorpe James was an agricultural labourer.3 He died before 4 January 1925.4
