     Francis Joseph Greathead was born in 1855 in Richmond, Yorkshire, England.2,3,4 He was the son of Francis Greathead and Annie White. He was baptised on 21 February 1858 in Grinton, Yorkshire, England.5 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Reeth, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Annie Greathead Francis was a scholar and lived with his widowed Mum.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Bargate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Annie Greathead Francis was a scholar.7 He married Elizabeth Eleanor Bennett, daughter of Elias Bennett, on 23 July 1879 in St Jude's, Brixton Street, Lambeth, London, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by William Adons and Louise Fulwell. Francis was described as a solicitor's articled clerk living at 201 Raitor Road while Elizabeth came from Deddington in Oxfordshire.8,9 In January 1880 it was reported in the Jackson's Oxford Journal that Francis who was for many years a clerk in the offices of Mr Kinch, of this town, has successfully passed his final examination, and been duly admitted a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of Judicature. He commenced his practice in Richmond, Yorkshire.10 On 8 December 1880 three men were charged with assaulting Francis. The previous Tuesday Francis had been at Richmond Moor Fair and was returning home on horseback between six and seven o'clock in the evening by way of Marske. He was struck on the side of his head with a nobbed stick and knocking hito the ground. He was struck again several times and pelted with stones. An innkeeper from Reeth arrived just in time and assisted him back on his horse. Upon arrival in Reeth he visited the doctor. The bench fines each of the me £4 with costs.11 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Reeth, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Annie Greathead Francis was a solicitor.12 Francis was appointed Clerk to the Reeth Board of Guardians and to the Rural Sanitary Authority Committee in April 1884.13 Francis was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in Reeth, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, Francis was a solicitor.14 On 13 January 1894 Francis, a Swaledale solicitor appeared at the Richmond County Petty Sessions before Mr C G Tate and Captain Smithson. He was summoned to show cause why he should not contribute to the maintenance of an illigitimate child seven years old, and the daughter of Mrs Helena Thompson, a young widow. An order for 4s per week was made.15 His mother Annie Greathead died on 30 June 1894.16,17 He received probate on his mothers estate in York on 24 October 1894. Her personal effects were valued at £251 1s 0d.17 He died on 29 November 1894 in Reeth, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, In the Leeds Mercury of 8 December Francis was described as Clerk to the Board of Guardians, the Marrisk School Board, Superintendant Registrar and Conservative Agent. He leaves a widow and small family.18,19

In the census of 30 March 1851 at Frenchgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Greathead William was a painter.3 He married Isabella Pierse, daughter of Thomas Pierse and Jane ..., on 9 April 1860 in Richmond, Yorkshire, England, The ceremony was performed after a licence was issued and witnessed by William Dobson, Matthew Greathead, Williams brother, Lucy Eliza Greathead, Williams sister and Jane Peirse.      Alfred Greathead was born about 1875 in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA, British subject.1 He was the son of William Felburn Greathead and Isabella Pierse. In the census of 3 April 1881 in Frenchgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Felburn Greathead Alfred was a scholar.2 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Front Street, Northallerton, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the apprentice of A J South. He was listed as being born in Hill, Yorkshire but I guess the gentleman to who he was an apprentice knew no different.3 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 122 Everton Road, South Manchester, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the boarder of the widow, Elizabeth Ann Hawley and her family. He worked as a grocer.4 He married Eliza Phoebe Amos in 1908 in Elham, Kent, England.5,6 Alfred was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 56 Durham Street, Hartlepool, Durham, England, Alfred was a grocer's assistant living with his wife and mother in his three roomed house.7 The will of William Mathew Greathead was proved by Alfred Greathead his brother in law on 29 October 1924.8 He died in 1946 in Durham, England.9 He was buried on 8 April 1946 in West View Cemetery, Hartlepool, Durham, England.10

     Amy Greathead was born on 30 January 1867 in 7 Bold Street, Chorlton Road, Stretford, Cheshire, England.2,3,4 She was the daughter of William George Greathead and Maria Cantrill. In the census of 2 April 1871 in 37 Pickford Street, Stretford, Cheshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Maria Greathead.5 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Foxhill Bank Cottages, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, England, she was listed as a servant being employed as a domestic servant to William Scott age 61, a widower, who was born in Glasgow. William was an engraver for a calico printer, an employer of 53 men and boys. His daughters Anne age 32 and Eliza age 25 both born in Manchester also lived in the household.6
She married Albert Edwin Bishop in 1888 in Haslingden Register Office, Haslingden, Lancashire, England.7,8 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 10 Victoria Terrace, Kearsley, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the wife of Albert Edwin Bishop.9 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 45 Kirkstall Street, South Manchester, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Maria Greathead Amy was a cloth workhouse worker.10 Her husband Albert died on 1911 in Aston, Warwickshire, England.3,11 Amy was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 19 Kirkstall Street, Ardwick, Chorlton, Lancashire, England, Amy was a machinist living with her sister in a four roomed home.12 She died in 1927 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.13,14

     Joan Cora Heron was born on 19 November 1914.1 She married Anthony Greathead, son of Joseph Henry Greathead and Ann Carr, in 1938 in Houghton le Spring, Durham, England.2 Her husband Anthony died on 26 November 1969 in 7 Fellside Gardens, Belmont, Durham, England, aged 56.3,4 She died on 6 April 2002 in St Mary's Nursing Home, Church Close, Chester le Street, Durham, England, aged 87.1,5,4 The will of Joan was proved on 25 April 2002 and granted to her son Anthony in Newcastel upon Tyne.4
