     Francis Alfred Greathead was born on 20 May 1829 in Dublin, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, USA.1,2,3,4 He was the son of Thomas Williams Greathead and Frances Sarah Hux.1 In the census of 1 June 1840 in McConnellsburg, Fulton County, Pennsylvania, USA, he was listed as the son of Thomas Williams Greathead The 1840 US Federal census only lists the names of the head of the household. The remainder are listed as numbers within age groups. So the relationship has been assumed. Also in the household were two people I cannot identify, both are female, one aged 20-30 the other aged 30-40.5 In the census of 1 June 1850 in McConnellsburg, Fulton County, Pennsylvania, USA, he was listed as the son of Thomas Williams Greathead Francis was a tanner.6,7 He married Jane Ellen Work.1 Francis was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 10 June 1880 in McConnellsburg, Fulton County, Pennsylvania, USA, Francis was a farmer living with his wife Jane and daughter Nellie.8 His wife Jane died on 1892 in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, USA.1,9 In the census of 1 June 1900 in Mount Vernon, Lawrence, Missouri, USA, he was listed as the father in law of William Buchanon Skinner Francis was living with his daughter and her family.10 In the census of 20 April 1910 in McCanse Avenue, Lawrence, Missouri, USA, he was listed as the grandfather in law of Harry O Haltermann Francis had his own income.11 Francis died on 15 January 1911 in Lawrence, Missouri, USA, aged 81 from acute heart failure. He was listed by his daughter Nellie that he was a retired farmer.12 Francis was buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Lawrence County, Missouri, USA.13,4

He was baptised on 17 April 1813 in Friarage Yarm Catholic Church, High Worsall, Yarm, Yorkshire, England, his Godparents were John Phillips and Margaret Johnson and the ceremony was performed by John Bradley.2,4,3 He married Harriett Andrews on 1 July 1834 in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA.1,5 Brothers William and John boarded SS Columbus in Liverpool travelling steerage class arriving in New York on 6 April 1840. William was listed as aged 27 and a hatter John was a 29 year old saddler.6 William was listed as head of household in the census of 1 June 1840 in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA, The 1840 US Federal census only lists the names of the head of the household. The remainder are listed as numbers within age groups. So the relationship has been assumed. Also in the household was another person I cannot identify she was aged 50-60.7 William was listed as head of household in the census of 1 June 1850 in Essex County, New Jersey, USA, William was a hatter.8 William was listed as head of household in the census of 1 June 1860 in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA, William was a jeweller living with his wife and children.9 His wife Harriett died on 18 January 1868 in Newark, New Jersey, USA.1,10 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 26 June 1870 in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA, William was a jeweller.11 William died on 30 July 1890 in Essex County, New Jersey, USA, aged 77.10 William was buried on 1 August 1890 in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA.12

     Nellie Johnston Greathead was born in September 1863 in Pennsylvania, USA.1 She was the daughter of Francis Alfred Greathead and Jane Ellen Work.1 In the census of 10 June 1880 in McConnellsburg, Fulton County, Pennsylvania, USA, she was listed as the daughter of Francis Alfred Greathead Nellie was living with her parents and helped her mother keep house.3 She married William Buchanon Skinner on 10 November 1882 According to the record of Catherine their daughter it would appear that she was their second child. William was an attorney at law.1,2,4 In the census of 1 June 1900 in Mount Vernon, Lawrence, Missouri, USA, she was listed as the wife of William Buchanon Skinner.5 Her husband William died on 1936 in Springfield Green, Missouri, USA.6,7 Nellie died on 21 September 1945 in 905 West McCarty Street, Kansas City, Kansas, USA, Her obituary appeared in the Sunday News and Tribune, Jefferson City, Missouri under the heading "Local Man's mother dies in Kansas City". Nellie died at the home of her daughter Jesse Pickens.8 Nellie was buried on 24 September 1945 in Springfield, Missouri, USA.8
