The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Pess and Stephen Stangroome.1,5,6,7,8,9 By 1794 Thomas and Martha had moved to Isle of Sheppy.10 Her husband Thomas died on about 1798.11 Martha died in December 1818 in Minster, Sheppey, Sheerness, Kent, England.11 Martha was buried on 19 December 1818 in S.S. Mary and Sexburga, Minster, Kent, England.11

Peter Whitelock1

     Peter Whitelock was baptised on 29 May 1738 in Downholme, Yorkshire, England.2 He was the son of Christopher Whitelock and Catherine Ellerton.2 He married Sarah Whitelock, daughter of Matthew Whitelock and Ruth Ellerton, on 6 April 1767 in Hipswell, Yorkshire, England.1 Peter died on 1 October 1778 in Thorp House, Downholme, Yorkshire, England, aged 40 from an inflamed throat. This is believed to be scaletina or scarlet fever of which there were epidemics in 1778 and 1788.2,3 Peter was buried on 29 January 1779 in St Michael and All Angels, Downholme, Yorkshire, England.4,2,3 Peter did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 31 May 1779 to his widow Sarah. Peter was described as a Yeoman and late of Thorpe in the Chapelry of Hudswell.2 The table tomb states that Peter and Sarah were buried together with their daughter Sarah.2

On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Alfred Douglas Greathead was listed as living at 24 Ravenscroft Road, West Ham, London, England with his parents and four siblings.5 He married Louisa Grace Bullock, daughter of George William Bullock and Louisa Jane Bettis, on 4 December 1948 in Christ Church, Sutton, Surrey, England, The marriage was witnessed by L G Bullock, R Gray and F Morris. Alfred gave his address as 337 Hook Rise , Surbiton and his occupation as a cabinet maker.6 Alfred is listed as a resident of Southend on Sea in 1955.7 Alfred and Louisa emigrated with their children to Adelaide in Australia in 1963.8,2,1 His wife Louisa died on 14 November 1995 in Australia aged 71.1,4 Alfred died on 1 November 1999 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, aged 74 He had been staying with his daughter Andrea after his wife died.1 Alfred was buried in Smithfield Memorial Park, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.9,4

George was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 36 Court 2 Camden Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, George was a hut forger living with his wife and daughters.2 George was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 161 Prescott Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, George was an axed forger living with his wife, a button carder and two children, Elizabeth and Hannah who were both at school.3 George was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 at 161 Prescott Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, George was an axle forger coachman, living with his wife, adopted son Alfred Greathead, daughter Elizabeth and son in law, James.4

     Alfred Greathead was born on 7 June 1897 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, Alfred's mother died it seems during childbirth. He was adopted by George and Elizabeth Burns. Ann was registered as Ann Greathead deceased formerly Oliver on his birth certificate by her mother in law Harriet who registered his birth.1,2,3 He was the son of John Josiah Greathead and Ann Oliver. He was baptised on 14 July 1897 in All Saints, Hockley, Warwickshire, England, his father, a brass finisher and other children were living in Plews Terrace. he seems to have been baptised Albert, although Alfred elsewhere. Since his mother died while giving birth to him I expect his father was not still rather shaken.4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 161 Prescott Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, he was listed as the adopted son of George Burns.5 He married May Napper in 1915 in Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, May's surname may have been Musty.6 Alfred died in 1980 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.7

In the census of 5 April 1891 in 6 Richmondfoce, Westone Lane, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, he was listed as the son of John Josiah Greathead.5 George's Mum died in 1897.3 George was listed inmate on the census of 31 March 1901 in Meriden Institute "The In", Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, This was an Industrial school situated at The Strawberry Fillongley.6 He married Margaret Griffiths in 1910 in Pontypridd, Glamorganshire, Wales.7 George was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 54 Herbert Street, Treherbert, Pontypridd, Glamorganshire, Wales, George was a coal miner hewer living with his wife and brother in their 6 roomed home. They had a boarder who was also a coal miner hewer.8 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register George was listed as living at Lower Peaches, Stroud, Gloucestershire, England with his wife Margaret. With their son Phineas. George was a general farm worker.9 George and Margaret together with their daughter Nellie and her son Richard moved to a new house in 1943 in 2 Woodview, Frampton Mansell, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England.1 His wife Margaret died on 1950 in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England.10 George died in 1970 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.11
