     Elizabeth Ann Blenkinsop was born in 1851 in Greatham, Hartlepool, Durham, England.1 She was the daughter of William Blenkinsop and Mary Ann Sanderson. In the census of 7 April 1861 in Seaton Carew, Durham, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Blenkinsop Elizabeth was a scholar.2 She married Henry Newbury in 1871 in Hartlepool, Durham, England.3 Her husband Henry died on 23 January 1879 in Seaton Carew, Durham, England, from Pneumonia which he had for seven days. The informant was John Blenkinsop his brother in law. He was baptised on 24 May 1874 in Seaton Carew, Durham, England.2 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Dixons Road, Seaton Carew, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Elizabeth Ann Newbury William was a scholar.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Dixons Field, Seaton Carew, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Elizabeth Ann Newbury William was an office boy at the port.4 He was a Private in the Royal Marines. He died on 6 April 1905 in Naval Hospital, Portland, Dorset, England, aged 31 from carancha of liver and exhaustion.5 He was buried in Holy Triniity Church, Seaton Carew, Durham, England, with his parents.6

     Elizabeth Annan was born in 1835 in Scotland. She was the daughter of John Annan and Betsy ... She married William Adams, son of George Adams and Margaret ..., on 20 March 1856 in Presbyterian Church, Dundee, Angus, Scotland, Married after banns by Jno Drake. Witnessed by William Anderson and Maryann Robertson. Elizabeth was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 16 Dover Steet, Stranton, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, Elizabeth is listed as a seaman's wife, so I guess William is at sea on census night. She has her to sons hector and Alexander living with her and her adopted daughter Julia Richardson.1 Elizabeth was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in 16 Dover Street, Stranton, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, Elizabeth was listed as a ship captain's wife, presumably William was at sea.2

Hugh Hallifield Birks
     Hugh Hallifield Birks was born on 3 August 1885 in 76 Whitby Street, West Hartlepool, Durham, England.3,4,5 He was the son of Edwin Birks and Eliza Hallifield. He was baptised on 8 October 1885 in Musgrave Street Wesleyan Methodists, West Hartlepool, Durham, England.6 In the census of 31 March 1891 in Melbourne Lodge, Stockton Road, Stranton, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Birks Hugh was a scholar.7 Edwin, Eliza and their five older children all signed the Wesley Register as paying their Guinea in 1898 towards the Methodist Million Guinea Fund. They gave their address as Melbourne Lodge in West Hartlepool.8 In the census of 2 April 1911 in The Oaks, Westbourne Road, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Edwin Birks Hugh was a grocer.9 He married Emily Douglas Lamb, daughter of Henry Lamb and Georgina Hart Hutchinson, on 30 August 1911 in St Pauls Church, Hartlepool, Durham, England, Hugh was described as a grocer living at The Oaks, Westbourne Road, Emily was living at 46 Clifton Avenue. The ceremony was witnessed by Herbert Andrew, Ellen Georgina Lamb and D Lamb.10,11,12 He was the Co-owner of high class grocery store and Station Hotel in Hartlepool. Hugh fell out with Emilys family, would not even sit down apparently at same table at family weddings.2
He died from influenza on 5 February 1924 in 2 Elm Grove, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, aged 38.10,2,13,14 He was buried on 7 February 1924 in Stranton Grange Cemetary, Tanfield Road, Hartlepool, Durham, England, The inscription on his headstone reads: Hugh H Birks born August 3rd 1885 died February 5th 1924.10,6,15 The will of Hugh was proved on 31 January 1925 in Durham to his widow Emily. His effectes were valued at £3693 9s11d.14
