Hargreaves and Ann ..., on 15 December 1822 in St Mildreds, Canterbury, Kent, England. His wife Sarah died on 1838 in Canterbury, Kent, England.3 He married Mary Charlton, daughter of Michael Matthes and Mary Milton, on 7 September 1840 in St James Apostle, Dover, Kent, England, There are no known children from this marriage.1,4 Charles was listed as the head of the family on the census of 6 June 1841 in Tower Hamlet, Dover, Kent, England, Charles was described as a labourer living with his new wife Mary, her mother and their children. All the children are listed as Turmaine.5 Charles was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at 21 Lower Hamlet, Dover, Kent, England, Charles was a labourer to the local Board of Erith. His mother in law and grandchildren Elizabeth and Thomas Keaton were living with him, his wife and children.6 Charles was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in 21 Tower Hamlet, Charlton, Kent, England, Charles was a labourer and Mary was a laundress. Their grandchildren Thomas Heelen aged 14 and a labourer and Elizabeth Heelen aged 12 a scholar were also staying in the household.7 Charles was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Dover Union Workhouse, Hougham, Kent, England, Charles was listed as a woolcomber.8 Charles died in 1872 in Dover, Kent, England.9,10

In the Cinque Ports Herald of 22 April 1826 Page 3 Column 3 the following was reported: A child names Turmaine whose parents reside in St Dunstans, Canterbury, about 16 weeks ago was bitten by a dog supposed at the time to be in a rabid state. From the circumstance of the animal having seized one or two other persons; little notice however was taken, further than dressing the wounded parts. But we are sorry to say symptoms of hydrophobia made their appearance a few days since, in the case of the child and the little sufferer, after exhibiting all the symptoms attended upon the disease, died on Sunday last in excruciating agony.2

     Henry Turmaine was baptised on 7 May 1819 in St Dunstans, Canterbury, Kent, England.1 He was the son of Charles Turmaine and Alicia Stone.1,2 He married Jane Watkins.3 An unknown person was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Homer Street, Marylebone, London, England, Henry was a bricklayer living with his wife and children.4 Henry died in 1853.5 His wife Jane died on 4 August 1865 in Kensington, London, England, She died from chronic bronchitis and debility.5,1

     William John Turmaine was born in 1835 in Canterbury, Kent, England.1 He was the son of John Turmaine and Suzannah Clifton.1,2 He was baptised on 8 May 1836 in St George, Canterbury, Kent, England.1 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Dover Lane, Canterbury, Kent, England, he was listed as the son of John Turmaine.3 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Buckland Bottom, Dover, Kent, England, he was listed as the son of John Turmaine William was a general labourer.4 He married Eliza Day, daughter of William Day, on 9 September 1858 in St Peter's, Stepney, London, England.5 William was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 9 Williams Street, Tower Hamlets, London, England, William was a sale maker and lived with his wife and children.
