     Mary Matthes was baptized on 2 April 1797 in Folkestone, Kent, England.1,2 She was the daughter of Michael Matthes and Mary Milton.1 She married Thomas Charlton on 2 October 1817 in St James the Apostle, Charlton, Kent, England.1 Her husband Thomas died on 1839 in Dover, Kent, England.3 She married Charles Turmaine, son of Charles Turmaine and Alicia Stone, on 7 September 1840 in St James Apostle, Dover, Kent, England, There are no known children from this marriage.1,4 In the census of 7 June 1841 in Tower Hamlets, Dover, Kent, England, she was listed as the wife of Charles Turmaine.5 In the census of 30 March 1851 at 21 Lower Hamlets, Dover, Kent, England, she was listed as the wife of Charles Turmaine Mary was a laundress.6 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 21 Tower Hamlets, Charlton, Kent, England, she was listed as the wife of Charles Turmaine.7 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Dover Union Workhouse, Hougham, Kent, England, she was listed as the wife of Charles Turmaine.8 Her husband Charles died on 1872 in Dover, Kent, England.9,10 She died in 1879 in Dover, Kent, England.11,12

     Elizabeth Saunders Charlton was baptized on 28 May 1834 in St Mary Virgin, Dover, Kent, England.1,2 She was the daughter of Thomas Charlton and Mary Matthes.1 In the census of 7 June 1841 in Tower Hamlets, Dover, Kent, England, she was listed as the daughter of Charles Turmaine Elizabeth seems to have been accepted as step daughter and known under the name of Turmaine.3 In the census of 30 March 1851 at 21 Lower Hamlets, Dover, Kent, England, she was listed as the step daughter of Charles Turmaine Caroline was a scholar.4 She married James Amos in 1856 in Dover, Kent, England.2,5 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Maxton Cottage, Hougham, Kent, England, she was listed as the wife of James Amos James was a bricklayer and Elizabeth was a laundress.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 18 Church Square, Margate, Kent, England, she was listed as the wife of James Amos.7 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Beehive Cottage, Crow Hill, Margate, Kent, England, she was listed as the wife of James Amos James was still working as a bricklayer and his wife a laundress.8
