     Charles Greathead was born about 1794 in Pond Dale, Gilling, Yorkshire, England.1,2 He married Elizabeth Dunn on 21 June 1823 in Kirby Ravensworth, Yorkshire, England.3,4 Charles was listed as the head of the family on the census of 6 June 1841 in Hartforth, Pond Dale, Gilling, Yorkshire, England, Charles was a farmer.5 Charles was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Hartforth, Pond Dale, Gilling, Yorkshire, England, Charles was a farmer of 300 acres employing three labourers.6 He died on 28 October 1873 in Dinsdale Park, Middleton-one-row, Durham, England, Charles formally lived at Pond Dale in the Parish of Gilling.7,2 The will of Charles was proved on 25 November 1873 at the Principal Registry by his son John Greathead of Downholme. Both John and his father were farmers. Charles effects were valued at under £3,000 and then resworn in February 1974 as under £4,000.8
