     Charles Greathead was born about 1795 in Pond Dale, Gilling, Yorkshire, England.1,2 He was the son of John Greathead and Ann Middleton. He married Elizabeth Dunn on 21 June 1823 in Kirby Ravensworth, Yorkshire, England.3,4 Charles was listed as the head of the family on the census of 6 June 1841 in Hartforth, Pond Dale, Gilling, Yorkshire, England, Charles was a farmer.5 Charles was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Hartforth, Pond Dale, Gilling, Yorkshire, England, Charles was a farmer of 300 acres employing three labourers.6 Charles wrote his will on 3 December 1854.2 Charles, a farmer aged 63 was admitted on 24 Juen 1865 to Dinsdale Park, a lunatic asylam by Joseph Greathead, his second son, a solicitor, South Lea House, Threadneedle Street, London. Charles address was Pond Dale.7 Charles was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in Dinsdale Retreat Asylum, Dinsdale, Durham, England, Charles was listed as CG a married farmer aged 68 with 23 male and 14 female patients.8 Charles was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Dinsdale Retreat Asylum, Dinsdale, Durham, England, Charles is listed as CG, a farmer from Brompton on Swale and sadly a lunatic.9 He died on 28 October 1873 in Dinsdale Park, Middleton-one-row, Darlington, Durham, England, Charles formally lived at Pond Dale in the Parish of Gilling.10,2,11,7 Charles was buried in St Peter and St Felix, Kirby Hill, Richmond, Yorkshire, England.12 The will of Charles was proved on 25 November 1873 at the Principal Registry by his son John Greathead of Downholme. Both John and his father were farmers. Charles effects were valued at under £3,000 and then resworn in February 1874 as under £4,000.13

     Charles Greathead was born in 1840 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, He was listed as eleven months old on the 1841 census.2 He was the son of Featherstone Greathead and Sophia Charlotte Swindon.1 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, he was listed as the son of Featherstone Greathead.3 In the census of 7 April 1851 at Bradbury Cottage, Isleworth, Middlesex, England, he was listed as the son of Featherstone Greathead.4 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 219 City Road, Finsbury, London, England, he was listed as the son of Featherstone Greathead Charles was a clerk to an auctioneer.5 Charles was admitted as a private patient into Northumberland House, Lunatic Asylum on 29 December 1869.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Northumberland House, Lunatic Asylum, Islington, London, England, he was listed as a patient in the Lunatic Asylem, his previous occupation was listed as a former Auctioneer.7 Charles died on 3 February 1872 in Northumberland House, Green Lanes, Stoke Newington, London, England.1,8 Charles was buried on 8 February 1872 in Islington Cemetery, Islington, London, England, The burial register states his address was 1 Tibberton Square, Islington. I believe that is where his parents may have been living.9 Charles did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 22 February 1872 to his mother Sophie his only next of kin at the Principal Register. His effects were valued at under £450.1

John ws a miner living at Happyland in Durham.3,2 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Dunkirk, Aylsham, Norfolk, England, she was listed as the wife of John Thomas Pull.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Dunkirk, Aylsham, Norfolk, England, she was listed as the wife of John Thomas Pull.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Dunkirk, Aylsham, Norfolk, England, she was listed as the wife of John Thomas Pull.6 John was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 Dunkirk, Aylsham, Norfolk, England, John a labourer was living with his wife in their four roomed home. They had eleven children, five of whom had died before 1911. I believe John was the fifth child, but I can find no death record for him.7
