     Eric Thomas Hanbury-Tracy was born on 4 July 1871 in Kensington, London, England.2 Eric was at Eton College from 1885 to 1888. His Tutor was Dame Evans. He was the elder son of Hon F S A Hanbury Tracy of 116 Queens Gate SW. A Captain in the Coldstream Guards in 1900 and served in the South Africa War.3 He married Dorothy Louisa Greathed, daughter of Edward Harris Greathed and Charlotte Frederica Caroline Osborn, on 6 November 1902 in Holy Trinity, Chelsea, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Algernon Osborn, Wyndam R Dunstan, Charlotte F Greathed and Helena Hanbury Tracy. Eric was a Captain in the Coldstream Guards and gave his address as 116 Queens Gate. Dorothy gave 103 Cadogan Gardens as her address.1,4,5 Eric was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in The Chestnuts, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, England, Eric was a Captain on half pay from the Coldstream Guards living with his wife, son and five servants.6 His wife Dorothy died on 16 April 1951 in Blandford, Dorset, England, aged 75.7,8 Eric died on 24 May 1953 in The Cottage Hospital, Englefield Green, Surrey, England, aged 81 his usual address was Mile End House, Victiria Road in Englefield Green.9,10,11 His estate was probated on 12 February 1954 in London to his son Claud Edward Frederick Hanbury-Tracy a civil servant.      Mary Alice Sharp Rogerson was born about 1868 Mary's mother was called Sarah Ann.1,2 She married Hervey Greathed, son of William Wilberforce Harris Greathed CB and Alice Clive, in 1897 in Weardale, Durham, England.3,4 Mary died on 8 April 1898 in Upton House, Waterford, County Waterford, Ireland, Her death notice appeared in The Newcastle Weekly Courant of Saturday 16 April 1898.5,4,6,7 The will of Mary was proved on 14 July 1898 in London to her husband Hervey, a Captain in Her Majesties Army, her brothers (I think) John Edwin Rogerson, William Ernest Rogerson and William Goddon a solictor. Probate was resealed in Dublin. Her effects in Ireland were valued at £14012 0s 2d.5 Mary's will states she has two brothers William Ernest Rogerson and John Edwin Rogerson who was married to Frances Mary and two sisters Beatrice Rogerson and Annie Ethel Blake.2

     Violet Constance Bertha Gilliat was born about 1875 Violet was the youngest daughter.2,3 She was the daughter of John Saunders Gilliat.2 She married Hervey Greathed, son of William Wilberforce Harris Greathed CB and Alice Clive, on 20 October 1903 in Christ Church, Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Alice Greathed, John S Gilliat and Cecilia V Giliat.4,2 Her husband Hervey died on 25 September 1906 in Walton, Wool, Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, England, aged 39 Sadly he did not live to see his daughter Dorothea who was born two months after his death.5,6,7,8,9 Violet and Hervey's brother Robert received probate on his effects in London on 20 November 1906.6 Violet sailed in 1912 to Algiers in Algeria from Southampton.10 She married Baron Rushcliffe in 1912 in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, He was 1st Baron Rushcliffe P.C., C.B.E.3,11 Violet died on 5 October 1947 in Epping, Essex, England.3,12

William Samuel Greatheed1

     William Samuel Greatheed was born on 30 January 1825 in Beach Cottage, Southampton, Hampshire, England, William's birth appeared in Salisbury and Winchester Journal, Southampton edition of Saturday 5 February 1825. It read "BIRTH.- On Saturday last, at Beach Cottage, the Lady of Samuel Greatheed, jun. of a son."1,2,3 He was the son of Samuel Greatheed and Margaret Elizabeth Crooke. He was baptised on 6 March 1825 in St Mary, Southampton, Hampshire, England.4 William attended Eton 1838 - 41. His House master was Rev Edward Hayes Pickering MA who was an Assistant Master at Eton from 1830-1852. When the boys left Eton they were allowed to carve their name once in the woodwork. I found William's name on the door between the Upper School and the Chapel.5 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Eton College, Eton, Windsor, Berkshire, England, he was listed as a pupil.6 He married Amelia Frances Baillie, daughter of Hugh James Baillie, on 16 October 1855 in St John, Paignton, Devon, England, aftera license had been taken out. William was an Officer in the Militia and his marriage was witnessed by Hugh James Baillie and Frances Maria Baillie. Her sister Francis Marie Baillie married Carl Julius Von Grundler on 26 October.1,7 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in Everton Villa, Milford, Hampshire, England, William was listed as a Captain in the Hampshire Militia.8 William was a Captain in the East Hampshire Local Militia which was based in Lymington from 1808 - 1916.

The Militia was an amalgamation of the The North Hampshire and The South Hampshire forming The Hampshire Regiment of Militia in 1853 which became the 3rd (Militia) Battalion The Hampshire Regiment in 1881. Then in 1908 it formed the 3rd (Special Reserve) Battalion The Hampshire Regiment. This was disbanded on the 3rd July 1919.9 William died on 27 January 1878 in Bruges, Belgium, aged 52 William was described as of Landford Lodge, Wiltshire and Arnos Vale, St Vincent.5,10,11

     Amelia Frances Baillie was born about 1819 in Heddon, Northumberland, England.2 She was the daughter of Hugh James Baillie.3 She married William Samuel Greatheed, son of Samuel Greatheed and Margaret Elizabeth Crooke, on 16 October 1855 in St John, Paignton, Devon, England, aftera license had been taken out. William was an Officer in the Militia and his marriage was witnessed by Hugh James Baillie and Frances Maria Baillie. Administration papers were issued on 15 February 1892 in London to her son Hugh Bertie Greatheed an engineer. Her effects were valued at under £379 16s 10d. Her husband had died in 1878.10

     Robert Greethead was born about 1820.2,3 He was the son of William Harris Greethead and Sarah ...2 He was baptised on 19 November 1820 in St Phliip and Jacob, Bristol, Somerset, England.2 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Temple Backs, Bristol, Somerset, England, he was listed as the son of William Harris Greethead.4,5 He married Jane Ballantyne, daughter of Thomas Ballantyne, on 14 March 1844 in St Thomas, Bristol, Somerset, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by John Hallam and Hester Aldridge. Both Robert and Jane signed the register with a X. Robert was described as a obaconist and his father a cooper, while Jane's father was an accounts clerk.1,6,7 Robert was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Harford Street, Bedminster, Bristol, Somerset, England, Robert was a tobacco worker.8 He died on 8 July 1853 in Princes Head, Welsh Back, Bristol, Somerset, England, His death occurrred the day before his son Francis was born. It was not recorded by J B Grindon, the Bristol Coroner until 13 September 1853. Jane recorded the birth of Francis on 5th August.

The Bristol Times, and Felix Farley's Bristol Journal of 16 July 1853 on page 6 it reads: Inquest before J.B.Grindon Esq. On Saturday, at the Princes Head, Welsh Back on the body of Robert Greathead, aged 31. Deceased was a working tobacconist, employed by G.W.Franlyn Esq. On Saturday morning deceased was occupied with three other men in bailing water out of a cellar, near Mr Franklyn's premises, when deceased accidently fell from the stage in the cellar, and unfortunately his head came into contact with a stone and caused concussion of his brain, and almost immediate death. Mr D. Davies surgeon of Queen-square, was sent for, and immediately attended, but deceased was dead before it was possible for him to arrive. Verdict "Accidental death."9,10
