Robert Featherstone Greathead

     Robert Featherstone Greathead was born about 1783 in London, England.1,2 He married Elizabeth Hoskins on 21 February 1807 in St Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England.1,3 John Hitchcock of the Guinea North Bruton Mews Berkeley Square victualler and Robert Featherstone Greathead took out an insurance policy with the Sun Fire Office on 12 July 1821. The policy was on the brick dwelling house of John Hitchcock for six hundred pounds. His household goods wearing apparel printed books and plate were also covered for a further three hundred pounds. China and glass a further twenty pounds and stock and utensils and goods eighty pounds. The premium was £1 1/6 and it was due for renewal midsummer 1822. The duty paid was £1 10/-. By 21 April 1823 the property was in the hands of Mr Maguire and no longer covered.4 On 27 February 1837 Robert was indicted for a misdemenor at the Old Bailey. It would appear that on 9 September 1836 Robert appeared at St Katherine's Dock and fraudulently presented a sampling order. He was found guilty and of good character and he was recommended for mercy receiving a sentence to be confined for six months. The newspaper report suggested his name was William Featherstone Greathead.2,5,6 Robert was listed as the head of the family on the census of 6 June 1841 in Fullwood Road, St Andrew, Holborn, London, England, Robert was an attorney clerk.7 Robert died in 1845 in Marylebone, London, England.8 Robert was buried on 21 March 1845 in Whitefield´s Memorial Church, North Ground, Camden, London, England, aged 60.9

The ceremony was witnessed by Robert F Greathead and Elizabeth Anne Muddley.5,6 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Constitution Row, Grays Inn Road, St Pancras, London, England, she was listed as the wife of David Wilkinson.7 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Little James Street, Clerkenwell, London, England, she was listed as the wife of David Wilkinson.8 Harriett was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in 20 Liquorpond Street, Holborn, London, England, Harriett was a needlewoman and a widow. She had her mother, her daughter Eliza an envelope folder aged 20 and son Henry, an errand boy aged 14 living with her.9 Harriett died in 1868 in Clerkenwell, London, England.10
