Gertrude was a tailoress staying with her three children and getting ready to follow Richard to Canada.7 Gertrude and her children followed their father to Canada on 29 July 1911.      Daniel Turmaine was born on 10 September 1761 in Canterbury, Kent, England.1,2 He was the son of Jean Turmaine and Catherine Becre.1 He was baptised on 13 September 1761 in Walloon Hugenot Church, Canterbury, Kent, England.1,2 He married Ann Day, daughter of Abraham Day and Ann ..., on 10 September 1787 in St Mary Breadman, Canterbury, Kent, England.3 He was a woolcomber in 1795 in Canterbury, Kent, England, This was referred to in the Kentish Gazette dated 18 September 1795.4 He died on 16 February 1839 in St Mary, Northgate, Canterbury, Kent, England, aged 77 Daniel died from apoplexy and was a woolcomber, his daughter Anna Maria Crippen was in attendance.1,5,6

     Richard Wallace Story was born on 24 January 1880 in Pancras, London, England.2,3,4 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 34 Oak Village, Pancras, London, England, he was listed as the son of Anthony, a solictors clerk aged 41 and Emma née Empy aged 36. Their children William, a house agents clerk aged 14 and Charles W aged 13, Arthur J aged 11, Alice M aged 9, Frederick aged 7 and Cecil C aged 6 all scholars. Also there was Emma S aged 3 and Richard W aged 1.5,4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 34 Oak Village, Pancras, London, England, he was listed as the son of Anthony, a solictors clerk aged 51 and Emma née Empy aged 46. Their children Alice M aged 19 and Cecil C aged 16 an apprentice brass finisher. Also there was Emma S aged 13, Richard W aged 11, Florence A aged 8 and Rosa M aged 6 all scholars. There was also Herbert E aged 2.6 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 34 Oak Village, Pancras, London, England, he was listed as the son Anthony, an Estate manager aged 61 and Emma née Empy aged 46. Their children Alice M aged 29, a domestic help, Richard W aged 21 was a chaise sadler, Florence A aged 18, a typist and shorthand writer. Rosa Maud aged 16 and Herbert E aged 12 completed the household.7 He married Gertrude Esther Turmaine, daughter of George Robert Evans Turmaine and Elizabeth Ann Tozer Higham, on 7 April 1901 in St Pancras, London, England.1,8 Richard was listed on a manifest dated 23 Jun 1910 for the SS Corsican, arriving in Quebec from Liverpool. Richard was 30, married, had never been to Canada, he intended to permanently reside there, had $25 cash, was born in England, his intended destination was Ottawa, and his occupation was a Saddler, his religion was Church of England. His wife and three children followed on 29 July 1911.4 Richard volunteered for the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 1 Feb 1916 at Midland, Simcoe County, Ontario. The attestation papers included the following information: Richard Wallace Story, of Midland Ontario, born in London England, next-of-kin father Anthony Story of 34 Oak Village, London NW, England. Richard was born Jan 24, 1880, was a shoemaker, married, and did not belong to a militia. He was described as 35 years 10 months old, 5' 6 1/2" tall, 36" expanded chest, ruddy complexion, dark brown eyes, dark hair, Methodist, and fit for service. His Regiment number was 644527.4,9 He was listed on a manifest dated 14 September 1919 for the Minnekahda, returning troops from Southampton, England to Halifax. He was listed as Sgt Richard Wallace Story, next-of-kin father, Methodist, residence Toronto.4,10 He married Mary Ann Elizabeth Whitby Mary Ann was previously married to Percy Alexander Story, who died in WW1.4 Richard died in 1958 in Canada.4 Richard was buried on 10 September 1958 in St James Anglican Cemetery, Penetang, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada.4
