Albert Dorrington

Albert Dorrington
Albert Dorrington was born in 1872 in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, England.1,2 He was the son of William Dorrington and Hannah Byford.1 A biography written about Albert states he was an author and journalist. He was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham. When he was about 16 he 'drifted' to Australia.3 He married Leonora Patricia Anderson.1 Albert and Leonora travelled with their infant daughters, Deborah and Leonora from Sydney aboard the ship Ophir arriving in London on 4 May 1907.4 Albert was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in Charleswood, Heathwood Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, England, Albert was listed as an author living with his wife and three children and an 18 year old servant called Winifred Folley in his seven roomed home. It is also listed that they had four chldren one of which had died.5 Albert left Liverpool on 25 August 1915 aboard the ship Saxonia for New York he was described as a novalist.6 Albert sailed into Liverpool on the ship Baltic on 4 August 1916 from New York. He gave his address in England as 9 Grafton Street, London and was working as an author journalist.7 In the electoral rolls of 1924, 1926 and 1929 Albert and Leonore are listed as living in Waitara, Ickenham Road, Ruislip, Middlesex, England.8 Albert was described as living at Waitara, Ruislip in England on the passenger list for his daughter Leonora in 1927.9 Leonora left London on 16 January 1935 aboard the ship Narkunda for Gibraltar, leaving Albert behind.6 Albert seeemd to be living according to the electoral rolls of 1936 and 1937 with a Vera Beesley who in 1949 married Jan Kowalska.8,10 In 1946 Albert appears to be living with an Emily M Dorrington in111 Horsea Road, Islington, London, England.8 Albert died on 9 April 1953 in 21 King Edwards Road, Ruislip, Middlesex, England, The house of his friend Vera, She is listed on the electoral rolls as living there on her won in 1953, 1955, 1958, 1964 and 1965. Albert's address was given as 12 Ickenham Road, I suspect the house name was Waitare. The age on the official record must definately be wrong. He was surely not 94.1,11,12,8 The will of Albert was proved on 1 June 1953 in London to Vera Maud Kowalska a married woman. His effects were valued at £10

It would appear that Vera was born 11 December 1904 as Vera Maude Beesley, married 1949 Jan Kowalska and died in Bournemouth in 1998.11,13,10,14
