Rudolph Jopling was born in 1872 in Germany.2 He was the son of John Jopling.1 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 71 Low Moorsley, Low Moorsley, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of John Jopling He was a scholar.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 22 Mariden Street, Westoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of John Jopling Rudolph was a coal miner.4 He married Jane Greathead, daughter of Edward Greathead and Mary Owens, on 30 December 1893 in St Mark, South Shields, Durham, England, The ceremony was witnessed by Mary Lizzie Greathead and Septimus Major. These two married themselves later the following year.5,1,6,7 Rudolph was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 100 John Clay Street, Westoe, Durham, England, Rudolph was described as a bank labourer living with his wife and two children.8

John Henry Greathead was born in 1893 in South Moor, Oxhill, Lanchester, Durham, England.1,2 He was the son of William Thomas Greathead and Mary Isabella Anderson. In the census of 31 March 1901 in Headley Cottages, South Moor, Oxhill, Lanchester, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of William Thomas Greathead.3 John Henry emigrated to Canada between the wars. He was in the Royal Canadian mounted police, his first family were tragically killed in a fire.4,5
