James Edward Cooper was born on 2 December 1905 in Halstow, Sittingbourne, Kent, England.1,2 He was the son of James Cooper and Harriett Kemsley. He arrived on the Canadian Pacific ship the Duchess of Atholl on 21 June 1930 at St Johns, New Brunswick. Helen had also emigrated with her parents. It is believed they came from Northampton. Helen was working as a school teacher when they met.1 He married Helen Lyons, daughter of Charles Edward Stiff and Louisa Marie Pratt, on 1 December 1932 in Naramata, British Columbia, Canada.1 His wife Florence died in late 1940's.1,3 He died in 1995 in Naiamo, British Columbia, Canada.1
