     Thomas Kirkup was born in 1852 in Haughton le Skerne, Durham, England.1,2 He was the son of John Kirkup and Jane Greathead.1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Haughton le Skerne, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of John Kirkup.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Mechanics Institute, Haughton le Skerne, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of John Kirkup Thomas was an engineers labourer.4 He married Mary ....1 Thomas was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in Haughton le Skerne, Durham, England, Thomas was an agriultural labourer. His mother Jane was living with him and his wife.5
