     Jane Harwood was born about 1868 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.1 She married Thomas William Greathead, son of Thomas William Greathead and Maria Underhill, in 1895 in West Bromwich Register Office, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England.1,2,3 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 195 Burbury Street, Aston Manor, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, she was listed as the wife of Thomas William Greathead.4 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 115 Stamford Road, Handsworth, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England, she was listed as the wife of Thomas William Greathead.5 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 115 Stamford Road, Handsworth, Staffordshire, England, she was listed as the wife of Thomas William Greathead.6 Thomas and Jane travelled with their son Thomas on SS Montclare leaving Liverpool on 27 September 1923. They left the Canadian Pacific ship at Montreal, Canada. Captain Webster was the Master of the ship which was carrying 1811 passengers. Thomas was listed as an engineer and his son Thomas a fitter.1,7 Thomas and Jane are listed as arriving in Detroit, Michigan in October 1923 on Canadian Pacific Railroad. Thomas gave his mother Maria as next of kin, she was living at 29 Trafalgar Road, Birmingham. Jane gave her sister Betsey Smallwood of Parts Road, Birmingham. Thomas was described as an engraver.8 Thomas and Jane were listed again as travelling on the Canadian Pacific Railroad arriving in Detroit in November 1923. They gave their address as St Thomas.8 In the census of 2 April 1930 in 12700 Coronade Avenue, Queens, New York, New Jersey, USA, she was listed as the wife of Thomas William Greathead.9 Jane and Thomas are listed on the manifest dated 4 July 1933 as arriving then in Buffalo, New York. They gave their previous address as 12700 Coronada Avenue, Cleveland.8 Jane died on 4 October 1957 in Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan, USA.10 Jane was buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Charleston, Oakland, Michigan, USA, Thomas and Jane are buried under the same gravestone.11

     Thomas Frank Greathead was born in 1898 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Thomas William Greathead and Jane Harwood.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 195 Burbury Street, Aston Manor, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas William Greathead.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 115 Stamford Road, Handsworth, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas William Greathead Thomas was a jewellery engraver living with his wife and two children, living in a six roomed home. On the return it states that they had three children, one of which had died.4 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 115 Stamford Road, Handsworth, Staffordshire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas William Greathead Thomas was a brass worker working for C Haseler & Co who were photographic apparatus makers in Bridge Street West in Birmingham.5 Thomas is listed on the manifest in November 1923 arriving in Detroit, Michigan. He gave his grandmothers address in England as 29 Trafalgar Road, Birmingham as his next of kin. His occupation was a fitter.6 He married Elsie Cayley, daughter of Thomas Cayley and Sarah Ann Edwards, on 15 September 1924 in St Thomas, Elgin, Ontario, Canada, the ceremony was witnessed by Joseph Harold Greathead and Thomas F Clark. Thomas was a brass finisher.1,7 In the census of 2 April 1930 in 12700 Coronade Avenue, Queens, New York, New Jersey, USA, he was listed as the son of Thomas William Greathead Thomas was a labourer in manufacturing.8 Thomas was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 1 April 1940 in 600 Grand Street, Vermilion, Erie, Ohio, USA, Thomas was a machinist brass worker living with his wife Elsie a waitress living with their daughter.9 Thomas died in 1972 in Hollywood, Broward, Florida, USA.10 Thomas was buried in Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens, Hollywood, Broward, Florida, USA.11

Stanley Charles Norman Greathead1

     Stanley Charles Norman Greathead was born in 1920 in West Ham, London, England.2 He was the son of Charles Albert Alexander Greathead and Caroline Matilda Jordon.3 Stanley did not have too happy a childhood he was initially brought up by a nanny in India and later went to boarding school in England.1 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Stanley Charles Norman Greathead was listed as living at 24 The Meadway, Chigwell, Essex, England, with his parents.4 Stanley sailed on the Lurline from Bombay, India arriving in San Francisco in December 1943.5 He married Nathalie Grace M Fairbank in 1944 in Woolwich, London, England.6 Stanley came to New Zealand through the Army where he was commissioned in the UK and worked in WW2 in Europe and then into the Asian theatre as a training instructor to the allies as a jungle warfare expert. He subsequently came to NZ and joined the NZ Army finally serving in Korea.1 He married Elizabeth Lynne Jaggard in 1955 in New Zealand Elizabeth was in the Army.7,8 Stanley left a will in 1957 leaving everything to his wife Lynne who was also his Executrix. He was working as a draughtsman and living in 40 Roseberry Avenue, Birkenhead and later moved to Glen Eden.9,10 Stanley died on 28 August 1968 in 137 Prospect Road, Glen Eden, Avondale, New Zealand, from cerebral haemorrhage.7,11 His body was cremated he had been an industrial engineer. His ashes were scattered 31 August 1968 on 30 August 1968 in New Zealand.9,12,13,14

The ceremony was witnessed by Edith F Oxley and F.R.E. Greethead. Julia gave her address as 8 Highbury Road, Horfield and Percival as 468 Gloucester Road also in Horfield. He was a Commercial traveller.7,6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Julia was listed as living at 36 Caledonia Place, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England, she was living alone and working as an exterior saleswoman. The Register gives an incorrect year of birth.8 Julia died in 1980 in Bristol, Somerset, England.9

     Percival Gladstone Greethead was born on 29 December 1883 in Barton, Somerset, England.1,2 He was the son of Francis Robert Edward Greethead and Rosina Marion Joll.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 11 Belgrave Terrace, Bristol, Somerset, England, he was listed as the son of Francis Robert Edward Greethead Percival was a scholar.4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 468 Gloster Road, Bristol, Somerset, England, he was listed as the son of Francis Robert Edward Greethead Percival was a seed merchant clerk.5 He married Julia Florence Knight on 6 June 1908 in Lewins Mead Meeting House, Lewins Mead, Bristol, Somerset, England, after the issue of an English Presbyterian certificate. The ceremony was witnessed by Edith F Oxley and F.R.E. Greethead. Julia gave her address as 8 Highbury Road, Horfield and Percival as 468 Gloucester Road also in Horfield.      Francis Greathead was born about 1883 in Leominster, Herefordshire, England.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Depot of Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, St Chad, St George, Leominster, Herefordshire, England, he was listed as a Private in the Shropshire Light Infantry (Militia). I cannot find his birth or any other records for Francis so did he give his real name and/or real his age when he signed up.2
