Henry Charles Mitchell was born on 25 October 1899 in Witley, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Thomas Mitchell and Emily Raggett. He was the son of Emily Mitchell in the 1901 census in Witley, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of Emily Mitchell in the 1911 census in Gosden Common, Bramley, Surrey, England. Henry was at school.3 Henry, a cycle fitter appeared before a tribunal on 8 December applying for exemption as a conscientious objector. In his application he stated that he attended the Bramley Mission Room, and could take no part in warfare. He also objected to non combatant service because to his mind it was all for the same object. With regard to national service he stated he had no objection to taking up other work provided it did not conflict with his conscience. A letter was read from Mr Jackson, his employer stating he was a good workman and a very conscientious and sincere young man. The Chairman of the tribunal granted him exemption from non combatant service only, but stated he would go into the army anyway. Henry said he most certainly would not" It is understood from the family he spent time in jail for his beliefs.4 He married Jessie Edith Noyes in 1928 in Hambledon, Surrey, England.5 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Henry was listed as living at Southbourne, Dorking Road, Chilworth, Surrey, England, with his wife Jessie. With their son Kenneth and a boy called Peter Lambird.6 He died on 25 March 1972 in Surrey, England, at age 72.7

Harry Wise was born circa 1901 It is believed that Harry was an orphan or came from a home.1 Harry became an apprentice shoe maker to George Brett Snr when he was 14 years old.2 He appeared in the household as a boarder of George Brett and Hannah Brett in the 1921 census in Wonersh Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England. Harry was working as a shoemaker working for William G Brett.3 He appeared on the census of 29 September 1939 in the household of Harriett May Pullen in 18 Lawnsmead, Wonersh, Surrey, England, Harry's occupation is obscured.4 He married Alice Mary Mitchell, daughter of Thomas Mitchell and Emily Raggett, on 30 September 1939 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Annie Ethel Mitchell and William George Brett. Harry was a labourer, his father was listed as William Wise, deceased who had worked as a farm labourer. Alice's father was also deceased. Thomas Mitchell was a gardener.5,6 Harry and Alice lived from 1944 until their deaths in Alderbrook, 9 New Road, Wonersh, Surrey, England.7 Harry attended church regularly and always blew the organ bellows for Sunday Services. He had a strong voice and sang in the choir. He was a keen supporter of both the cricket and football clubs.2 When Mr Brett gave up his shop Harry worked for some years at the Premier Cooler factory at Shalford and afterwards as a gardener helping many in the village.2 He died on 3 September 1980 in Surrey, England.8,2 At his funeral contributions had been made to the National Society for Cancer Relief. These totalled £83.65.2

Caroline Eliza Messenger was born circa 1845 in Woking, Surrey, England.
