Albert was 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighed 152 lbs, with a chest measuremnet 34 inches. His complexion was dark, grey eyes and brown hair. He joined the MEF at Gallipoli on 16 May 1915 going on then to Alexandra on 9 January 1916 and then travelled on HMT Ingoma to Marseille on 25 March 1916.6,7 He died on 26 July 1916 in France Albert was reported missing then killed in action on 26 July 1916. He had also seen service in Alexandria.6 Bert sent a letter to his mother from the trenches in 1916 saying he had received a letter from her and one from his sister Rose that had been sent on from Liverpool in Australia. He suggested his mother did not put anything about the war in her letters as her last letter had lots of bits torn off before he received it. He said he was doing well and the weather was good. He enquired about his brothers Jim and Arthur and particularly about how his Dad was. He assured his mother there was money for her in the Commonwealth Bank of Australia should anything happen to him. A copy of his letter was made on 5 August 1916 and used as his will at the Court of Enquiry into his death held on 29 September 1917, presumably since he was reported missing, presumed killed in action.6
Albert is remembered on the Villers-Bretonneux Australiam National Memorial.8
