Interestingly Frederick is listed as Cadwaladr and Margaret's son on this census. Later on Frederick's enlistment papers he stated his father was Hugh Davies - address unknown.4 He was the nephew in the 1901 census in 12 Aran Lane, Bala, Merionethshire, Wales. He was staying with Cadwaladr and Margaret Jones and their children John and Margaret. Cadwaladr was a stockfeeder.5 He was the stepson of Henry Durant and Eliza Durant in the 1911 census in Eastwood Road, Bramley, Surrey, England. He was five foot seven inches tall with a chest measurement of 35 inches, he had several distinguishing moles on his body. He gave his mother as Elizabeth Durant of Eastwood Road as his next of kin.3 Like many other soldiers Frederick went absent without leave a couple of times. On 24 January for which he forfeited one days pay and 17 March 1916 when he had to forfeit four days pay.3 Frederick was posted as missing between 9 and 12 July 1916.3 He died on 9 July 1916 This was the official date accepted as his death on his army papers. He had previously been reported as wounded in action on 11 April 1916 and returned to duty on 6 May1916. He had served a total of 259 days, 143 days at home and 116 days in France when he died.7,3 On 29 January 1919 Elizabeth signed an official army paper at the Bramley Vicarage stating Frederick's living relatives apart from her were his half blood sisters Elizabeth and Maggie Singleton and Nellie Durant.3 Elizabeth acknowledged receipt of Frederick's British War and Victory medals on 15 December 1921, having already received his belongings and the memorial scroll.3 Frederick's name appears incorrectly as E Roberts in Bramley War Memorial, Bramley, Surrey, England.
