     Algernon Leslie Brown was born on 1 September 1866 in Camberwell, London, England.2,3 He was the son of John Brown and Ellen ... He was a son of John Brown and Ellen Brown in the 1871 census in 7 The Gardens, Lambeth, London, England.4 He was the son of John Brown and Ellen Brown in the 1881 census in 180 Peckham Rye, Camberwell, London, England.5 He was the son of John Brown and Ellen Brown in the 1891 census in 4 Challoner Street, Hatcham, Surrey, England. Algernon was a tutor and lecturer.6 Algernon was ordained in 1894, he was a Scholar of Trinity College, Cambridge, took a first in Classics and was a Tutor and Precentor of Selwyn from 1899-1906. He was a Freeman of the City of London and Member of the Grocers Company.7 He was the son of John Brown and Ellen ... in the 1901 census in 26 Castletown Road, Fulham, London, England.8 Rev Algernon carried out detailed researches into the history of the Parish Church and village, and the lives of the incumbants. Many of his articles appeared in the Parish Magazine, giving most interesting details of village life. He wrote a full account of the major restoration of the Church 1901/02 under the direction of Sir Charles Nicholson.7 Rev Algernon Brown became Vicar of St John the Baptist in Wonersh in 1906 appointed by Selwyn College, Cambridge (Patron of the Church) staying until his death in 1947.9,7 Algernon represented the UK at the Olympic Games in 1908 as an athlete.1 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in The Vicarage, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England. He had two servants living with him.10 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Algernon was listed as living at The Vicarage, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England, Rev Algernon was a clerk in holy orders living with one servant and three schoolmasters surprisingly all married, no sign of their wives.11 Rev Algernon Leslie Brown died on 7 March 1947 in Wonersh Vicarage, Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 80 It was reported in the Wonersh Parish Magazine of March 1947 that Rev Algernon's resignation was to take effect from 9 April 1947 due to age and ill health, but he died befre that happened.12,13,14 He was buried on 11 March 1947 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 615 after a service in St John the Baptist in Wonersh.15 His estate was probated on 4 July 1947 in London to George William Brett the parish clerk. His effects were valued at £3,157 13s 10d.13 In September 1947 The Wonersh Parish Magazine reported that a brass was placed in floor of church in front of altar to commemorate Rev Algernon Brown. It cost £100.16

Richard Chennell1

     Richard Chennell was baptised in 1599 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.2 There were many Chennells, many related, living in the village. This gentleman was known as Richard of Lee Crouch, he was a husbandman in Wonersh. He described himself as a small farmer, who minds his own business. He had a small farmon lease fron the manor of Bramley and a small meadow which he bought outright to provise hay for his three cows.3 He married Sara Street on 29 September 1616 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.4 Life became a great struggle for Richard and Sara after the birth of their daughter Mary. Neither were too well. Richard was taght to read by the Vicar.3 His wife Sara died in 1637 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1 The family ate in the hall of their house, Richard slept in the parlour. The children kept their bedding in a store cupboard and spread it on the floor of the hall or kitchen depending upon how cold it was. The kitchen had a big fireplace where the cooking was done. The family mainly lived of rye bread, oat gruel, bacon and cheese. Richard made beer and honey and sold any food from the farm to merchants who gave him credit notes which he hid in the chest in his parlour.3

     Hugh John Theodosius was born in 1932 in Guildford, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Rev Arthur William Henry Theodosius and Margaret Anne Randolph. He received the probate of the estate of Margaret Anne Theodosius on 30 July 1965.2 He died on 9 September 2012 in Spalding, Lincolnshire, England.3
