     George Firby was born on 24 November 1776 in Hudswell, Yorkshire, England.2 He was the son of John Firby and Jane Greathead. He married Ann Thompson on 14 January 1802 in Hudswell, Yorkshire, England, after the banns were read on Sunday 27 December and 3 and 10 January 1802. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Greathead, Thomas Pratt and George Coates. Ann signed with her Mark x.2,3 George was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 June 1841 in Lots Colig, Easby, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, George was a farmer. The household consisted of George and his wife, their daughter Ann, Mary Thompson aged 65 of independant means, George Thompson a servant aged 14 and William Scott Thompson a servant aged 20.4 He died on 14 February 1849 in Gallowgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, aged 72 from a disease of the heart. He was listed as a farmer aged 72.2,5 George and Ann were buried in the same grave.2
