     William Greathead Atkinson was born in 1861 in Bedale, Yorkshire, England.2 He was the son of Richard Atkinson and Mary Scaife.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Ilton with Pott, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the grandson of Mary Rodwell aged 74 of no occupation.4 He married Hannah Maria Williams, daughter of William Williams, on 14 December 1884 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Denton Drake and Mary Jane Atkinson.
