     Timothy Greathead was baptized on 30 March 1823 in Broughton Astley, Leicestershire, England.2 He was the son of John Greathead and Hannah Green. Timothy was committed on 14 December 1842 by T A Green as a rogue and vagabond to one calendar month hard labour. He worked in the mill in Bedford Gaol, New House of Correction. He was discharged on 13 January 1843 and described as orderly.3
