The ceremony was witnessed by Margaret Annie Butt and Sarah Holland. Ian was a bricklayer, his father Jack Ernest Butt was deceased and had worked as a labourer. George was an agricultural labourer living with his sister Dinah who was his housekeeper and a young lad George aged 2 believed to be Dinah's son.6 He married Bethia Porter, daughter of James Porter and Ann Snelling, on 22 December 1877 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by William Mark and Ellen Mercer. George was a labourer like his father James. Bethia's father James was a bricklayer. Both Bethia and George came from Wonersh.7,8 He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Wonersh, Surrey, England. George and Bethia were living with a boarder William Porter listed as George's cousin and a 52 year old Pensioner and Soldier and two youngsters listed as nurse children, James Faulkner and Thomas C Broomfield. Bethia was a nurse.5 She married George Mercer, son of James Mercer and Ann Conduck, on 22 December 1877 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read.      James Porter was baptised on 18 October 1819 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of James Porter and Ann Snelling. He married Sarah Lemon, daughter of Richard Lemon, on 25 December 1845 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. the ceremony was witnessed by John Stemp and Eliza Stemp. James wa sa labourer and his father also called James was a bricklayer. Sarah was from St Martha's and her father Richard was a labourer.2,3 He was listed as head of household in the 1851 census in Lee Crouch, Wonersh, Surrey, England. James was a bricklayer living with his wife and children.4 He was listed as head of household in the 1861 census in Hyde, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.
