     John Philip Morton Carpenter was the son of Archbishop H W Carpenter. He married Marjorie Clare Ord in 1915 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.1 He died on 15 September 1916 in France he had served as a Lieutenant in Royal Field Artillery.2 He was buried in Bulls Road Cemetery, Flers Thilloy Road, Beaulencourt, France, in plot III L 13.3,4 His estate was probated on 24 January 1917 in London to his widow Marjorie Clare Carpenter. His effects were valued at £680 5s 0d.2 John is remembered as a Casualty of WW1 in the Diocese of Salisbury Memorial Book for Salisbury Cathedral. The Battle Cross for Lieutenant John Philip Morton Carpenter was located in Salisbury Cathedral next to his brother-in-law Captain Charles Basil Mortimer Hodgson who died 1 April 1918.5
