Alfred Grange Murphy was born on 11 September 1894 in Auckland, New Zealand, he was the eldest of four sons.1,2 He married Laura Ellen Goodwin, daughter of Thomas Edmund Goodwin and Mary Tobin, in 1923. In 1925 Laura and Alfred a bricklayer were living in 256 Bowen Terrace, Marthyr, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.3 Alfred, a bricklayer and Laura were in 1928 living.3 By 1936 Alfred and Laura were living in 62 Abbott Street, New Farm, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.3 By 1943 and until at least 1958 Alfred was listed as a sub contractor. He and Laura were living in 49 Westbourne Lane, Kurilpa, Queensland, Australia.3 By 1963 and at least until 1972 Alfred was a bricklayer and they were living in Flat A27 Beddoes Street, Holland Park, Salisbury, Queensland, Australia.3 He died in 1975 in Australia.1

Raymond Thomas Murphy was born circa 1926 in Australia.1 He was the son of Alfred Grange Murphy and Laura Ellen Goodwin.1 Laura sailed on Largs Bay leaving Brisbane and arriving in Hull on 16 December 1927 with her son Raymond age 1. She gave her address again as 2 New Park Road, Ashford. I suspect they were visiting her mother who lived there, and probably attending her sister Norah's wedding. Laura and her son returned to Brisbane on board Hobson Bay leaving from London on 8 February 1928, giving the same address as their first journey to UK.1,2 He died in March 1929 in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Australia, after a fall.3
