He married Rose Harriet Butt, daughter of Mark Butt and Ellen Stemp, on 21 September 1912 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. William was a groom from Hersham and his father Frederick was dead but had worked as a carpenter.1 He died before 1922 in Surrey, England, I assume William died before 1922 as Rose remarried that year.

He was baptised on 4 November 1888 in Christ Church, Shamley Green, Surrey, England, the family lived in Stroud Common and his father Alfred was a labourer.2 He was the son of Alfred Faulkner in the 1891 census in Stroud Common, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of Alfred Faulkner and Jane Faulkner in the 1901 census in Smithbrook Cottages, Cranleigh, Surrey, England.4 Australian records are comprehensive they record that he was born in Shamley Green, educated in Cranleigh, arrived in Australia age 23. He was single and a labourer.5 Herbert sailed on 4 August 1911 from London to Fremantle in Australia on board the ship Orontes His occupation was a clerk.6,7
He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A54 Runic on 19 February 1915.5 He died on 31 July 1917 in Ypres, Belgium.8 Herbert is also remembered on Grafham war memorial.9 He was buried in Dickebusch New Military Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium, in grave 11 F18.8
