Peter M Herbert was born in 1936 in Hampstead, London, England.1,2 He was the son of Edwin Savory Herbert and Gwendoline Hilda Judd. Peter was brought up at Tangley Way in Blackheath surrounded by his much loved sisters Elizabeth, Jane and Alison and his mother Gwen.1 Peter started his career as a copywriter coming up with slogans for consumer goods.1 Peter was a keen sportsman, a rowing cox at Oxford though too heavy at nine stone to be considered for the university boat. But cricket was his great love, playing at school, at Oxford and in the Royal Navy and, of course at Blackheath.1 National service saw Peter slinging his hammock as a midshipman in the aircraft carrier HMS Ocean. He loved his time in the Royal Navy, Sub-Lieutenant Herbert was mostly engaged in whizzing up and down the channel in motor torpedo boats including in the experimental and delightfully named, HMS Bold Pathfinder.1 The last forty years of his life was spent at Eashing.1 He died in 2022. There was a thanksgiving service on 15 Februaty in St Martins Church in Blackheath where his son James read the eulogy.3
