Arthur David Newton

     Arthur David Newton was born in 1897 in Stepney, London, England.1 He was the son of William Newton and Eliza Jane Turmaine. In the census of 31 March 1901 in 4 Anchor Street, Limehouse, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Newton.2 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 23 Alfred Street, Poplar, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Newton Arthur was at school.3 Alfred enlisted in Poplar on 10 December 1915 into 19th Company Royal Army Medical Corps as Private 147331. He was declared fit, five foot seven inches tall, weighed 116 pounds and had a chest measurement of 34 inches. His occupation was a saw mill machinist.4 Sadly on 24 December 1917 he developed pleurisy and was transferred back to UK but was much improved in fact declared recovered by 19 January 1918.4 Alfred served 4 years and 52 days being discharged on 31 January 1920.4
