He was the son of John Young and Agnes Young in the 1901 census in Rydes Hill, Worplesdon, Surrey, England.2 When John and Agnes received news of the death of their son Edwin they were living in 2 Hill View, Eastwood Road, Bramley, Surrey, England.3 He died on 29 March 1917 in Egypt Edwin was serving as Private 206701 in 2nd and 4th Battalion of The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) His mother was living at 2 Hill View, Eastwood Road in Bramley when she heard of his death.4,5 He was buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, El-Qantarah el-Sharqiyya, Al Isma'iliyah, Egypt, in plot D35.5 Agnes received a war gratuity for Edwin on 4 November 1919 of £7 10s 0d.6
