Charles was a blacksmith living with his wife and two children.4 His wife Harriett died in 1879 in Guildford, Surrey, England.5 He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Smithwood Common, Shamley Green, Surrey, England. Charles was listed as a master shoeing and jobbing living with his children and Caroline who may be listed as a cousin and working as a general servant.6 He married Ann Field on 29 September 1883 in St Peter and St Paul, Albury, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by James Jackson and Ellen L Jackson. Charles was a blacksmith like his father Richard Holden. Ann came from Portsea and no father was listed. Both Charles and Ann were widowed.7 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in Stroud Brow, Stroud Common, Shamley Green, Surrey, England. Charles was a retired blacksmith living with his wife.8 His wife Ann died on 28 January 1930 in Hambledon Infirmary, Hambledon, Surrey, England.9,10 He died in 1930 in Hambledon Infirmary, Hambledon, Surrey, England.11 He was buried on 9 April 1930 in Christ Church, Shamley Green, Surrey, England, in plot J19 with his wife.11
