He was baptised on 12 November 1882 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, his father was a labourer.2 He was the son of George Gray and Mary Ann Gray in the 1891 census in Tannery Cottages, Shalford, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of George Gray and Mary Ann Gray in the 1901 census in Birtley Road, Bramley, Surrey, England. George was a farm labourer.4 He married Ada Revere, daughter of George Revere, on 4 June 1906 in St Matthais, Earls Court, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by George Revere and Charlotte Revere. George was a coachman and gave his address as 23 Lawnsmead, Wonersh. Ada gave her address as 13 Hogarth Place.5,6 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in The Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. George was a domestic coachman living with his wife and three young children in their three roomed home. Little Henry only three months.7 George signed up in Guildford on 19 January 1915 to join the 8th Battery Royal Field Artillary no 79384. He gave his address as 1 Lawnsmead. He was 5 foot 6½ inches tall, weighed 114 pounds, had a chest measurement of 37 inches. he had a sallow complexion, born eyes and hair. he had a mole on the right side of his abdomen.8 He was discharged on 15 March 1915 as not likely to become an efficient soldier. His charactor was good. Apparently he suffered from incontinence of urine which led to him giving up cycle riding and now found that his duties as a driver brought on the old trouble.8 He died in 1955 in Surrey, England.9

Harry was a stable boy.5 He married May Mourant, daughter of George Mourant, in 1909 in Preston, Sussex, England, The ceremony was witnessed by Henry and Bute Gasson.6,2 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in 28 Coombe Terrace, Preston, Sussex, England. Harry and his wife and sister were llisted as a second household in the same house as the newly married George and Allen Knight. Both George and Harry were soldiers and their wives domestic cooks. Harry was a Private in 4th Irish Dragoon Guards.7 Harry service number 1025 in 4th Irish Dragoon Guards was listed as a prisoner of war in the daily listing of 10 May 1915 previously reported as missing.8 The Parish Magazine of January 1918 reported 'Corporal H Gray of 4th(RI) Dragoon Guards, has been removed to Switzerland, after 3 years 8 months captivity in Germany. He went to France with the original BEF on 15 August 1914 and was wounded in the back of the knee at the battle of Mons on 24 August when he was captured by the Germans.9'

The ceremony was witnessed by John Smallridge and Ethel Stewart. George was a solicitors clerk, his father George Thomas Pearce was retired. Dorothy's father John Smalllridge was a gardener.4,5 She died in June 1987 in Surrey, England, at age 80.6
