     Geoffrey Bathurst Colebrook was born in 1896 in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England.¹ He was the son of Albert Ernest Colebrook and Caroline Janet Smith. He was the grandson in the 1911 census in Belmont Lodge, Belmont Street, Bognor Regis, Sussex, England. Geoffrey and Merril were staying with their grandmother Jane Smith and her widowed daughter Mary Lucy Davidson born in New South Wales. There were three servants in the household.² Albert and Caroline with their son Geoffrey arrived in New York on 16 June 1905 from Dover on board the ship Deutschland, they were bound for New Zealand.³ He appeared in the household as a boarder in the 1911 census in 2 Barby Road, Rugby, Warwickshire, England. He was a schoolboy.⁴ He died on 26 July 1915 in France Geoffrey was serving with the 1st Battalion Queens (Royal West Surrey Regiment) as a Second Lieutenant.⁵ He was buried in Woburn Abbey Cemetery, Cuinchy, France, in plot I D 10.⁵
