     Claude Ludovic Kauffmann was born on 1 June 1930 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to a French father and a Brazilian mother.1 He married Gillian Shirley Johnson in 1961 in USA.1 In 1979 Claude and Gillian lived in Downfield, Mellersh Hill, Wonersh, Surrey, England.2 Claude was fluent in five languages and made serious attempts to learn Japanese and Finnish. He was always keen to keep up with technology and indexed many items for the Wonersh History Society. He created an index of articles in their first 46 bulletins which were made into a booklet proving an invaluable resource for members. He was a keen gardener, loved his whiskey and wine and retained a wicked sense of humour, was warm hearted with a generous nature.3 Claude was a member of the Conservative Party, the Guildford County Club. He joined the Club in the late 1980s, sat on the Board of Directors in 1998 and became Chairman in 2004. He retired from the Board in 2010, becoming Vice President until 2015, when he became their President. He was a member of the Catenians for 36 years, being Provincial President from 1990-1992 and Guildford Circle President from 1984-1985.3 He died on 6 June 2017 at age 87.3 He was buried on 30 June 2017 in St Edward the Confessor, Sutton Park, Guildford, Surrey, England, following a service in St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 12 Eastgate Gardens, Guildford.3

     William Thomas Herbert was born in 1899.1 He was the son of George Herbert.1 He married Jane Gray, daughter of George Gray and Mary Ann Goodchild, on 26 November 1927 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Job Gray and Frederick Herbert. William was in the Royal Navy based at Portsmouth, his father George Herbert was a chauffeur. Jane's father George Gray was deceased but had been a tanner.2 Mary was living in 23 Lawnsmead with her son in law William and daughter Jane.3 His wife Jane died in 1958 in 23 Lawnsmead, Wonersh, Surrey, England.4 William was living in 23 Lawnsmead with his son Brian and daughter in law Freda in 1960.3 He died in 1977 in Wonersh, Surrey, England. He was buried in 1977 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 807 with his wife after a service in St Johnthe Baptist in Wonersh.5

Arthur Edward Pellett1

     Arthur Edward Pellett was born on 22 June 1877 in Farncombe, Surrey, England.1,2,3 He was the son of William Pellett and Frances Mosley.4 He was baptised on 28 June 1885 in St John the Evangelist, Farncombe, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of William Pellett and Frances Pellett in the 1891 census in Hearts Yard, Godalming, Surrey, England.5 Arthur was in the Royal Navy and served on St Vincent on 4 December 1893, his last service being on Aboukir ending on on 3 June 1905. When he joined he was listed as being 5 foot one inch tall with brown hair, hazel eyes and a fresh complexion, with bracelets on both wrists. When he was 18 he had grown 4 inches, and still had brown hair although his eyes were listed as grey and a pale complexion. It would appear he deserted a couple of times but was caught and returned to his ship.6 He married Annie Chant on 11 April 1908 in Hambledon, Surrey, England.7 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in 16 Lawnsmead, Wonersh, Surrey, England. Arthur was an unhairer in the leather factory living with his wife, two children, little Arthur was only 7 months old. Ernest George Chant was listed as a son aged 6. Arthur's mother, sister Doris and brother Richard were also in the household. Annie stated she had been married for 8 years and had 4 children one of whom had died before 1911.8 Arthur enlisted in London into the Royal Engineers No 43217 on 19 August 1915. He was 5 foot 5½ inches tall. His chest measurement was 39 inches and his weight was 162 lbs and gave his address as in 55 Crimea Road, Aldershot, Hampshire, England.9 Arthur was demobed on 23 September 1919.9 He died in 1939 in Surrey, England.10

     Elizabeth Jenkins was born on 16 July 1875 in Bramley, Surrey, England.2 She was the daughter of Henry Edward Jenkins and Charlotte Worsfold.1 She was baptised on 15 August 1875 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 She was the daughter of Henry Edward Jenkins and Charlotte Jenkins in the 1881 census in 22 Lawnsmead, Wonersh, Surrey, England.4 She was the daughter of Henry Edward Jenkins and Charlotte Jenkins in the 1891 census High Street, Bramley, Surrey, England.5 She married James Lumley on 9 October 1897 in St Mary, Guildford, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by William Jenkins and Mary Ann Bunce. James was a cabinet maker like his father William Lumley. Elizabeth's father Henry Jenkins was a labourer.6 James and Elizabeth had moved from Guildford to Esher then East Moseley before moving North to Newcastle upon Tyne by 1910. They had five children none of whom it would appear moved back to Surrey. Her husband James died on 23 December 1941 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, England, After James death it seems Elizabeth moved to live near her daughter Amy Robins.7 She died on 19 November 1946 in Blaby, Leicestershire, England, at age 71.8

     Ann Day was born circa 1817. She married Charles Jenkins on 19 November 1842 in St Peter and St Paul, Godalming, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Hannah Ketcher and Charles Nabb?. Charles was a school master his father James Jenkins was a labourer. Ann's father Edward Day was a labourer.1 She died in 1846 in Shalford, Surrey, England.2 She was buried on 27 July 1846 in St Mary the Virgin, Shalford, Surrey, England.3

     George Worsfold was baptised on 15 October 1809 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England, his parents were George and Mary Worsfold.2 He married Jane Larbey on 19 August 1838 in St James, Elstead, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by James Lee and Ann Larbey. George was a labourer like his father also called George Worsfold. Jane's father William Larby was deceased but had worked as a labourer.3 He died in 1884 in Bramley, Surrey, England.4 He was buried on 25 October 1884 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England.5
