James William Greated was born in 1889 in County Galway, Ireland, No forename was entered on the GRO index for his birth.2,3 He was the son of Joseph John Greated and Charlotte Sharman.1 He was baptised on 29 June 1889 in St Nicholas, County Galway, Ireland, his baptismal record states he lived at Lydican Castle Clare Galway. The ceremony was performed by T J Miller the curate.1,4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Lydacam, Carnmore, County Galway, Ireland, he was listed as the son of Charlotte Greated James was a scxholar.5 In the census of 2 April 1911 in Lydacam, Carnmore, County Galway, Ireland, he was listed as the son of Charlotte Greated Charlotte was described as a farmer living with her four children, all of the Church of Ireland faith. The house was made of brick or stone with a tile or sate roof and six rooms with 16 windows in the front. It also had one stable, one coach house, one harness room, one cow shed, one calf shed, one piggery, one fowl house, one barn, one turf house, one shed and four out offices.6 He married Bertha Millicent Neill in 1922 in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1,7,8 In September 1922 Lydican Castle was raided and burned down in October. James and his wife moved to Linziestoun House in Clare County then to Drinagh.1,9 He had lost his home, many cattle and lands and using solicitors Kenneth Brown, Baker and Baker of Lennox House, Norfolk Street, Strand WC2 James made a public claim in 1927 for compensation. He was eventually awarded £4,175 by the Irish Grant Committee.9 James died on 24 January 1962 in Drinagh House, Drinagh, County Wexford, Ireland.1,10 The will of James was proved on 26 October 1962 in London by his widow Bertha. His effects were valued at £4109 9s 4d in England.10

Shirley Wanda Barry was born on 12 January 1930 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.3 She married Alan William Greathead, son of Aubrey Leonard Greathead and Ivy Gordon, in 1951 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.1,2 Shirley and Alan separated around 1972 but never divorced.3 Her husband Alan died on 13 September 2007 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, aged 77 The Sydney Morning Herald Friday, 14 September 2007 had two entries. One stated GREATHEAD, Alan William. September 13, 2007, died peacefully after a long illness, in Melbourne. Loving father of Mark and Jon, father-in-law to Pip and Narelle, adored grandfather of Joseph, Alex, Michaela, James and Shirley. Loved husband and partner to Shirley and Elizabeth. Lover of golf. A friend to all dogs. A gentle man. Rest in Peace.
