She was the president of the Tunstall View Townswomen's Guild and put her long life down to her hectic social life.      Walter John Greathead was born on 15 August 1911 in 7 Severn Grove, Lozells Street, Aston Manor, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.^1,2 He was the son of Daniel Saunders Greathead and Alice Williams. There is a lovely picture of Alice and Daniel and three children. Arthur, Ivy and baby Walter, sadly baby Daniel had died in infancy. Presumably taken around 1912.³ On his scholar's leaving certificate from Lozelle Street School dated 24 July 1925 Walter, after four years he was described as never having been late, with 100% attendance and conduct excellent. He was a school prefect, a very good worker and absolutely trustworthy and reliable.³ The Edinburgh Gazette of 8 June 1928 stated that Walter John Greathead had been appointed a Temporary Postman-Messenger during the month of May 1928.⁴ He married Susan Emily Groom on 18 November 1939 in St Silas Church, Lozells, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Leonard George Powell and Elizabeth Maud Groom. John proposed to Jean on the night before he set off on a world criuse and they married six weeks after he returned.^7,8 He died in September 2005 in Staffordshire, England, aged 84.^4,9
