     Allan Huitson Blackburn was born in 1896 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.2 He was the son of Albert Arthur Blackburn and Edith Gill Huitson.1 Allan died before 1911 In 1911 census Allan's father states one of his six children died before 1911. He names all four in the census and the fifth being Elizabeth who went on to marry John William Smales.3

Jean Anderson Skinner

     Jean Anderson Skinner was born about 1864 in Coull, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 She was the daughter of William Skinner and Margaret S Ross.1 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Tarland Migvie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, she was listed as the daughter of William Skinner.2 She married George Hubert Ede, son of Charles Ede and Emma Ede, on 29 September 1892 in The Village, Tarlande, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, after the banns had been read. George was aged 30 and a Doctor of Medicine from Bramley in Surrey. Jane was the Ministers daughter aged 28.1,3 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Ardo, Station Road, Bramley, Surrey, England, she was listed as the wife of George Hubert Ede.4 In the census of 2 April 1911 in Ardo, Station Road, Bramley, Surrey, England, she was listed as the wife of George Hubert Ede.5 Her husband George died on 11 April 1917 in Ardo, Station Road, Bramley, Surrey, England.6,7 Jean died on 31 July 1947 in St Luke's Hospital, 10 Warren Road, Guildford, Surrey, England, her usual address was Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey.8,7 Jean was buried on 4 August 1947 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England.9 Administration papers were issued with a will on 17 December 1947 in London to a widow Bessie Watson Shepherd. Her estate was valued at £170 15s 1d.7 Administration papers were issued with a will on 27 April 1962 a second grant was issued in London to Harry Crawley Ross Skinner DSO MC Lt Col H M Army. Her estate was valued at £2173 19s 7d.7

Emma Dorothy Ede1

Emma Dorothy Ede
     Emma Dorothy Ede was born on 17 September 1893 in Bramley, Surrey, England.1,2,3 She was the daughter of George Hubert Ede and Jean Anderson Skinner.1 She was baptised on 25 October 1893 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England, her father was a Medical Practitioner.3 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Ardo, Station Road, Bramley, Surrey, England, she was listed as the daughter of George Hubert Ede.4 Dorothy attended St Catherine's School from September 1901 until Easter 1912. She was an excellent scholar winning many prizes.5 In the census of 2 April 1911 in Ardo, Station Road, Bramley, Surrey, England, she was listed as the daughter of George Hubert Ede.6 Emma died on 16 August 1915 in Bramley, Surrey, England, aged 21.7 Emma was buried on 19 August 1915 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England.8 A report death of Emma Dorothy Ede, with list of mourners, floral tributes and an appreciation by Mrs Leonard Phillips, Commandant of Thorncombe Military Hospital. The initial report in the newspaper begins ‘A gloom is cast over the village’, and that Dorothy was universally beloved. She joined the nursing staff of Thorncombe on the outbreak of was ‘most intellectual and painstaking nurse and very anxious about her work’. The funeral was conducted by Rev D Green (vicar of Bramley) and Rev C Etty, and included two hymns. Among the wreaths was one from Mrs Russell Baker and old girls of the School. Mrs Phillips’ tribute reads: ‘A great power for good, and her example she always set of unselfish service, always eager to help both patients and fellow-workers, never grumbling, or wishing to have the best work given to her, but doing it all in a cheerful spirit which, without doubt did much to help in her patients’ recovery, and made her one of the most valued nurses and popular workers at Thorncombe Hospital’. She had not been at work since 1 August and all were looking forward to her return ‘when we heard that she was seriously ill, only a few hours before her death’.9,10 Dorothy's name appears on the Surrey V.A.D. Nurse Memorial in Farnham Road Hospital in Guildford.5

     Jane Greathead was born in 1843 in Easington, Durham, England.1 She was the daughter of John Greathead and Martha Fishburn. Jane died on 17 November 1846 in Ox Close, Coxhoe, Durham, England, from scarlatina. Her mother registered Jane's death with her mark and described her father John as an agricultural labourer.2

In the census of 1 June 1931 in 135 Jackson E, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, he was listed as the son of Alfred Louis Greathead.3 He married Thelma K Powell. His wife Thelma died on 1962.1,4 Louis died on 27 September 2006 in Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, aged 83.1,2,5 A celebration of Louis' life was held in Saturday 30 September 2006 at 2pm at the Cameron Funeral Home, Chelsley memorial and donations were requested to be sent to the Salvation Army.1

     Joseph Robert Greathead was born on 12 December 1935 in Canada Joseph was the twin of Mary.2 He was the son of Alfred Louis Greathead and Rose Emma Hurd.1 He married Bettye Ann Bottoms in Canada.1,2 His wife Bettye died on 8 June 1966 when her daughter Jennifer was very young. Bettye was a nurse.2,3,4 He married Mary Barbara Jean Brown on 10 December 1966.2,5 There is a lovely picture of the family.6 John and Barbara lived in Grimsby in Canada in 2006 when they attended John's brother Louis' funeral.5,7,1 Joseph died on 14 March 2016 in Canada aged 80.2
