     Alfred Turmaine was born on 19 October 1824 in Minster, Kent, England.1,2 He was the son of Rev Henry Turmaine and Susanna Knight Atkinson.1 He was baptized on 17 December 1824 in Minster, Kent, England.1,3 Alfred served in the military, it is reported in the Kentish Gazette of 1 June 1847 page 3 column 5 near the top, as a mathematical instructor (Civilian) on board H.M.S. "Victory", 104 guns at Portsmouth, Hampshire. He was the second son of the late Rev Henry Turmine of Minster in the Isle of Sheppey.4 He died on 7 February 1860 in Southampton, Hampshire, England, aged 35.1,2

"Nov 10th after a short illness in this city Augustus Goerge a beloved youth and third son of the Rev Henry Turmine, of Minster in the Isle of Sheppey, aged 17, a King's scholar."1

     Edward Charles Turmaine was born on 23 May 1827 in Minster, Kent, England.1,2 He was the son of Rev Henry Turmaine and Susanna Knight Atkinson.1 He was baptized on 3 December 1828 in Minster, Kent, England.1,3 In the census of 7 June 1841 in Minster, Kent, England, he was listed as the son of Rev Henry Turmaine.4 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Banks Terrace, Canterbury, Kent, England, he was listed as the son of Susanna Knight Turmaine Edward was a clerk in the Royal Navy.5,1 Edward was a Church Warden of Minster Parish Church from 1875 until his death.6 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 2 Banks Terrace, Minster, Kent, England, he was listed as the brother of Henry Thomas Atkinson Turmaine Edward was a retired Paymaster in the Royal Navy.7,1 He died on 16 September 1884 in Sheppey, Kent, England, aged 57.1,8,9 The will of Edward was proved on 1 October 1884 at the Principal Registry to the Executors who were John Copland of Sheerness, a solicitor and Charles Arnol of Sheerness a surgeon. Edward was late of Banks Terrace, Sheerness. he was a retired Paymaster in the Royal Navy. His personal effects were valued at £2131 3s10d.10

     Bertha Alfrida Turmaine was born on 20 December 1836 in Minster, Kent, England.1 She was the daughter of Rev Henry Turmaine and Susanna Knight Atkinson.1 She was baptized on 16 March 1837 in Minster, Kent, England.1 In the census of 7 June 1841 in Minster, Kent, England, she was listed as the daughter of Rev Henry Turmaine.2 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Banks Terrace, Canterbury, Kent, England, she was listed as the daughter of Susanna Knight Turmaine Bertha was a scholar.3,1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 268 High Street, Minster, Kent, England, she was listed as the daughter of Susanna Knight Atkinson Bertha was living with her mother and sister Adelaide.4 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 2 Banks Terrace, Minster, Kent, England, she was listed as the sister of Henry Thomas Atkinson Turmaine.5,1 She married Frederick George Hopkins, son of Thomas Hopkins, on 9 September 1886 in Sheppey, Kent, England, There are no known children for this marriage.1,6 Bertha was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in Broadway, Minster, Sheerness, Kent, England, Both sisters were living by their own means.
