In the census of 2 April 1911 in 6 Ennerdale, Sunderland, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Alfred Morris.2 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 15 Higher Intake Road, Bradford, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Alfred Morris Alfred was an apprentice engineer working for English Electric Company in Bradford.3 He married Maud Sharp on 17 June 1930 in St Luke, Mannngham, Yorkshire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by S Clough aand W Sharp. Alfred was a fish frier living at 25 Woolton Street. His father Alfred Morris was professional cricketer. Maud lived at 114 Jesmond Avenue. Her father James Sharp was a corporation workman.4,5 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Alfred was listed as living at 18 Lime Street, Bradford, Yorkshire, England, with his wife Maud. Ethel Riley was born on 28 March 1933 in New Acres, Stanley, Durham, England, in a caravan as stated on her birth certificate, her father was a coal hewer.1,2 She was the daughter of Patrick Joseph Riley and Mary Ann Greathead. Ethel is listed on the alien arrivals as arriving at St Albans, Vermont in 1940 aged 7. She left Liverpool on 26 April 1940 bound for Montreal in Canada on board the ship Duchess of Bedford as one of the 12 Fairbridge Farm School children. She aparently took the train to Victoria in British Columbia where she lived at Fairbridge farm until she was 16, when she was fostered by Jack and Joan Burgess who wanted a nanny for their two children and to keep their house tidy. Ethel did attend High School in Victoria and became a secretary with a hospital there while living with Jack and Joan.3,4,2 Ethel joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Lac St Denis where she met Own who was in the US Air Force stationed in St Albans, Vermont.2 She married Owen Frederick Canfield on 7 May 1955 in Torrington, Connecticut, USA.5 Thomas and Ethel managed to ake contact with each other in the 1970s, after 30 odd years apart. They never met in prson but stayed in touch exchanging letters until Thomas death in 1986.2 Ethel died on 4 August 1988 in 15 Woodbine Street, Torrington, Connecticut, USA, aged 55 Her obituary was recorded in the Hartfield Express of 5 August 1988.6 Ethel was buried in Bantam Burying Ground, Bantam, Litchfield County, Connecticut, USA.7

Owen Frederick Canfield was born on 1 February 1934 in Torrington, Connecticut, USA, he was the son of Owen F and Marjorie Canfield née Wheeler.1 Ethel joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Lac St Denis where she met Own who was in the US Air Force stationed in St Albans, Vermont.2 He married Ethel Riley, daughter of Patrick Joseph Riley and Mary Ann Greathead, on 7 May 1955 in Torrington, Connecticut, USA.3 His wife Ethel died on 4 August 1988 in 15 Woodbine Street, Torrington, Connecticut, USA, aged 55 Her obituary was recorded in the Hartfield Express of 5 August 1988.4 Owen died on 30 November 2019 in Torrington, Connecticut, USA, aged 85 He was a U.S. Air Force Korean Conflict Veteran. Owen was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Along with being the consummate family man, his love for his family boundless, his accolades include: 7 time Connecticut Sportswriter of the Year, Induction into the Torrington High School Hall of Fame & the Connecticut High School Coaches Hall of Fame. He was honored as Saint Patrick's Day Lord Mayor of Torrington. Along with teaching CCD classes at Saint Francis, he also taught Sports writing classes at the University of Connecticut and Central Connecticut State College. He was heavily involved with the Class of '52 High School reunions & functions. He also enjoyed his monthly lunches with his fellow retired colleagues from the Hartford Courant. Survivors include four sons, six daughters, 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Canfield was predeceased by a brother, Matthew D. Canfield.1 Owen was buried on 6 December 2019 in Bantam Burying Ground, Bantam, Litchfield County, Connecticut, USA, with full Military Honours. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated the following day 7 December 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington.1
