He was baptised on 25 May 1890 in St Nicolas, Guildford, Surrey, England, his father was a shepherd and the family lived in Littleton.1 He was the son of James Thomas Richardson and Sarah Caroline Mitchell in the 1891 census in Lower Beeding, Sussex, England.3 He was the son of James Thomas Richardson and Sarah Caroline Richardson in the 1901 census in Hop Gardens, Lower Beeding, Sussex, England.4 He married May Finniss on 31 August 1910 in Brighton, Sussex, England.5,6 Charles enlisted in Preston, Sussex on 11 December 1915 into the Army Service Corps Motor Transport as a Private Reg number DM/2/154266, he was a chauffeur. He was discharge on 11 September 1916 through sickness, t appears he suffered from epilepsy.7 He died in 1962 in Chorley, Lancashire, England.8
