He was baptised on 21 June 1903 in St Mary the Virgin, Shalford, Surrey, England, his father was a schoolmaster.2 He was the son of Albert Frederick Clarke and Marion Matilda Clarke in the 1911 census in School House, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.3 He married Lilian Mary Talbot on 6 December 1933 in St Mary, Fetcham, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Doris Muriel Annatt, Enid Harris and R MDnnott? Arthur was a mechanical supervisor and was living in 6 The Street, Fetcham. His father Albert Frederick Clarke was deceased and had been a schoolmaster. Lilian gave her address as 37 Hilldrop Road in London Her father Robert English Talbot was a farmer. They were married by Rev Richard A Talbot.4,5 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Harold was listed as living at Brambeer, Hawthorn Way, Guildford, Surrey, England, with his wife Lilian. Harold was a diesel engine, turning and grinding engineer living with his wife, Maud M Bishop and one other person.6 He died on 26 July 1955 at age 52 I do not believe his body was found.7 The inquest in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight recorded death by misadventure as recorded in Yorkshire Post and Leeds Intelligencer - Leeds, West Yorkshire of 30 July 1955. Lilian's body was found near Yarmouth and her daughter Carolyn was found at Alum Bay. the newspaper reported that it was not known what had happened to Harold but they feared the worst.8 His estate was probated on 28 August 1956 in London. Administration papers were issued to Leslie Gerald Clarke a civil servant. His effects were valued at £1,895 2s 1d. His address was recorded as Jubilee Cottage, Jacobs Well near Guildford.7

Leslie Gerald Clarke was born on 30 January 1905 in Chilworth, Surrey, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Albert Frederick Clarke and Marion Matilda Hounsome. He was baptised on 30 April 1905 in St Mary the Virgin, Shalford, Surrey, England, his father was a schoolmaster.3 He was the son of Albert Frederick Clarke and Marion Matilda Clarke in the 1911 census in School House, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.4 Leslie enlisted into the Royal Navy on 31 December 1921 with a service number J105154. The first ship he served on was Ganges the last on Ambrose leaving on 29 February 1928 after a service of 12 years. He was 5 foot 2.5 inches tall, with a chest measurement of 33 inches, brown hair, brown eyes and a fresh complexion. He had a scar on his forearm.5 He received the probate of the estate of Harold Arthur Clarke on 28 August 1956 in London. Administration papers were issued to Leslie Gerald Clarke a civil servant. His effects were valued at £1,895 2s 1d. His address was recorded as Jubilee Cottage, Jacobs Well near Guildford.6 He died in 1961 in Hackney, London, England.7

James Thomson Bell Nicoll was born on 11 January 1900.1 James date of registration as a doctor was 30 April 1917 in Edinburgh University.2 He married Lucy Stanfield in India.3 James was described as a Medical man arriving in Southampton on 10 May 1926 on board Kenilworth Castle from Natal in P E Africa. He was aged 26 and gave 205 Anerley Road SE20 as his UK address.4 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register James was listed as living at Corner House, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with his wife Lucy. James was a medical practitioner living with his wife and children.5 Dr Bell-Nicoll dressed up as the King of Norway around 1940 taking Mary Rees as his wife up to Barnett Hill for a surprise visit. A message was sent ahead to Barnett Hill to expect the King and they took it very seriously believing them to be who they said they were. The story was talked about in the village for many, many years.6
The entry in the Medical Dictionary of 1942 read: James Thomas Bell Nicoll M.B., CH.B. Ed. 1923 (Univ Ed) late Ho. Surg. & Phys. Falkirk & Dist. Infirm; Surg. i/c Missao Escosceya Hospital Portugese E Africa.7 James and Lucy were recorded between 1942 and James death in 1955 as living in Corner House, The Street in Wonersh.8 Dr Bell Nicoll and his wife Lucy can be found in the middle of one of the frieze sculptures in Church Green Arch along with many other members of Wonersh.6 He died on 17 March 1955 in Corner House, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 55.9,10 The funeral of James Thomson Bell Nicoll took place on 22 March 1955 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.11
His estate was probated on 8 July 1955 in London to his widow Lucy. His effects were valued at £26,770 17s 6d.10
