     Barbara Pamela Carran was born on 27 October 1952 in Wanganui, New Zealand.^1,3 She married Murray John Greathead, son of Owen Charles Greathead and Rita Maxwell Lean, on 28 October 1972 in St Andrew Presbyterian Church, Wanganui, New Zealand.^1,3,4 Barbara died on 1 February 1998 in Wangauri, New Zealand, aged 45.¹

     Ernest Haigh was born on 26 June 1878 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.^1,2 He was the son of Samuel Haigh and Jane Ann Moffatt. Ernest farmer for his father at Matarawa until is marriage.³ He married Mabel Dorothy Greathead, daughter of John Greathead and Mary Bright, on 26 July 1911 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.^1,2,4 Ernest and Dorothy moved to Te Puke where Ernest built up a carrying and coal busines. An interest in horticulture led to a move to Whakatane aand finally they retired in Auckland.³ Ernest died on 25 May 1944 in Auckland, New Zealand, aged 65.^1,2

     Alan Raymond Haigh was born on 25 January 1914 in Te Puke, New Zealand.² He was the son of Ernest Haigh and Mabel Dorothy Greathead. Alan spent his childhood in Te Puke attending the Primary school and upon completion he took up an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic. When his apprenticeship was complete he stayed on in Te Puke even after his parents and sister moved on to Whakatane and he started his pown market garden business.³ Alan became an army transport driver and served in Egypt and Crete. During the retreat he was shot and wounded in the ankle and taken prisoner. He was put on a hospital ship but unfortunately the ship was torpedoed and all aboard were drowned. His parents were notified he was missing presumed dead but not until much later did they discover where he had died.³ He died on 5 December 1941 aged 27 Of the many sequels to the Corridor battle which ended the main New Zealand part in the offensive, the unhappiest by far concerned the evacuation of wounded from Tobruk. Hospitals in the fortress area were grossly overcrowded as a consequence of the unexpectedly long and bitter fighting, and it was a matter of the greatest urgency in the first few days of December to get wounded back to less congested hospitals where they could get proper attention. There was no knowing at that stage how long it would be before the land route eastwards was opened and too few hospital ships were available for the task. The little SS Chakdina when it sailed in the afternoon of 5 December on its return voyage to Alexandria therefore carried 600 men (including 120 New Zealanders) of whom 380 were wounded, 97 of them New Zealanders and among these over 30 gunners. Just after 9 p.m. an aerial torpedo struck and exploded in an after hold and in three and a half minutes the crowded little ship sank in a strong swell. Some 400 men were drowned, 80 of them New Zealanders and almost all of these survivors of the fighting at Sidi Rezegh and Belhamed. Thirty gunners were lost in this disaster amongst them was Alan Haigh Gunner 28943 from 6 Field Regiment aged 27.^2,3,4

     Maxwell Athol Haigh was born on 28 May 1915 in Te Puke, New Zealand, Maxwell spent his childhod years in Te Puke.² He was the son of Ernest Haigh and Mabel Dorothy Greathead. When war was declared in 1939 Maxwell volunteered or Military Service and spent two years in active service as a Gunner in Italy, Egypt and North Africa.² In 1941 all his battalion were captured and he spent the next four years as a prisoner of war in Germany. Those years were filled with terrible conditions and little to eat. They worked mainly in coal mines in Germany.² At the end of the war, Maz returned to Auckland, where he continued working in his trade as a carpenter.² He married Olga Victoria Henderson on 20 December 1950 they set up home in Papatoetoe.^3,2 Max was able to turn his hand to most things and built several houses for his own family. He enjoyed gardening and was an active member in the Seventh DayAdventist Church.² Max and Polly retired in 1980 to Orewa in the north of Auckland.² Maxwell died on 8 September 1995 aged 80 and is buried in the Returned Services area at the Gatland Road, Cemetery in Papakura.²

     Doris Mabel Haigh was born on 11 August 1918 in Te Puke, New Zealand, Doris attended Te Puke Primary school and completed the proficiency exam before leaving to mind house and take phone orders for he father as her mother and been taken ill and was hospitalised When she recovered Doris took a job in a jeweller's shop. During this time Doris completed Brownies and Guides , becoming a Quatermaster.^1,2 She was the daughter of Ernest Haigh and Mabel Dorothy Greathead. Doris moved with the family to Whakatane and took a job in the gift and newspaper store until her marriage.² She married Harold Stanley Wright on 11 January 1939 in Whakatane, New Zealand, and they set up home in Edgecombe where Stan was employed in a grocery store.¹ In 1941 Stan and Doris moved to Auckland to share a house with her parents who were frequently ill.² Her husband Harold died on 21 March 1989 aged 79.² After Stan died Doris moved to a unit in Papakura. She left in May 1990 for a months holiday in England andthe continent while her daughter Julie was ona fouryear posting at New Zealand House in London. She returned to Papkura and stayed there until 1997 when she moved to Australia to live in the SDA Retirement Village in South East Brisbane.²

     Olga Victoria Henderson was born on 18 November 1923 in Ashburton, New Zealand, Polly spent he childhood at Ashburton and after completing her education at Auckland she qualifies as a secretary . She trained as a general and maternity nurse graduating in 1948.³ She married Maxwell Athol Haigh, son of Ernest Haigh and Mabel Dorothy Greathead, on 20 December 1950 they set up home in Papatoetoe.^2,3 Polly worked as a nurse in New Zealand and Australia until her retirement in 1978.³ Max and Polly retired in 1980 to Orewa in the north of Auckland.³ Her husband Maxwell died on 8 September 1995 aged 80 and is buried in the Returned Services area at the Gatland Road, Cemetery in Papakura.³ After Max's death she returned to Auckland to be near her children. She spent her time gardening and in voluntary work with elderly people in the area.³

     Isaac Low was born on 21 August 1821. He was baptised on 23 September 1821 in Holy Trinity, Clapham, London, England, his parents were John Low and Jane Watts.¹ He married Julia Enderby, daughter of George Moody and Charlotte Clarke, on 14 January 1853 in St Mary, Lambeth, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Carpenter and Faith Carpenter. Isaac was a labourer, his father John Low was deceased but had been a shoe maker. Julia was a widow, her father George Moody was also deceased and had worked as a hairdreser.isaac and Julia gave their address as Paradise Street.² Isaac was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in 30 Willis Street, Poplar, London, England, Isaac was a porter living with his wife and children.³ Isaac died in 1868 in Poplar, London, England.⁴
